2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo Is Lighter, Grippier And (Hopefully) More Exciting To Drive

Image
Nissan arrived at the New York Auto Show with a whole team of new models, including the updated for 2020MY Nissan GT-R Nismo. The king of the GT-R range received a number of revisions, aiming to make it even more exhilarating to drive but keeping the main power figures unchanged. This means that the hand-crafted twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine -which employs the same turbochargers with the GT-R GT3 race car- still produces 600hp and 481lb-ft (652Nm) of torque. Despite the same power figures, the race car-derived turbochargers now feature a modified turbine shape and fewer blades, while the six-speed dual-clutch transmission comes with an updated software, improving the adaptive shift control and a more refined ‘R’ mode. There’s also a revised titanium exhaust system. The Japanese car maker focused in other areas too in order to extract more speed, including weight and aerodynamics; each exterior panel made out carbon fiber -like bumpers, front fenders, hood, roof, side sill ...

Nissan And Italdesign Create The Ultimate GT-R To Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Image
Nissan has revealed the GT-R50 by Italdesign, a prototype based on the 2018 GT-R Nismo built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of both the iconic Japanese sports car and Italdesign. As the GT-R turns 50, Nissan has collaborated for the first time with Italdesign to create a “limitless” GT-R. Italdesign developed, engineered and built the one-off prototype which will debut in Europe next month. The GT-R50’s new bodywork gets a distinctive gold detailing, a new hood with a more pronounced power bulge, thin LED headlights, a lower by 54mm roofline, a steeper rake for the rear window and twin floating taillights with hollow centers, among other. The prototype is finished in what Nissan calls “Liquid Kinetic Gray” paint finish with “Energetic Sigma Gold” accents while the wheels are custom 21-inch items. The cabin is also bespoke, with the dashboard getting a new design that doesn’t feature an infotainment screen for a cleaner look while the instrument cluster is di...

2017 Nissan GT-R Track Edition Making U.S. Debut At NY; Starts From $127,990

Image
Nissan will show the latest GT-R Track Edition for the first time in the U.S. at the 2017 New York Auto Show. The limited Track Edition of the Nissan GT-R is the third model of the range, following the GT-R Premium and the GT-R Nismo. Occupying the space between the two existing versions of the Japanese sportscar, the new Nissan GT-R Track Edition features various elements from the hardcore Nismo in order to deliver more performance than the standard GT-R. The twin-turbo V6 continues to deliver 565hp but the body now features additional adhesive bonding, instead of the standard version’s spot welding, increasing this way its rigidity. Additionally the suspension is now lighter and uniquely tuned by Nismo, the wheels are now 20-inch forged items and the rear spoiler is made out of carbon-fiber. The cabin gets a unique red and black treatment and a set of heavily-bolstered Recaros. A titanium exhaust is also standard. “The new GT-R Track Edition gives buyers a specialized mo...

New Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster Caught For The First Time

Image
We suspected it was coming and now, after  Mercedes-AMG  boss, Tobias Moers, confirmed the launch of a GT Roadster earlier this week, a camouflaged tester of the open-top supercar was spied on the German Autobahn. The person who nabbed the AMG GT Roadster says it was travelling together with the 911 Convertible seen in front, which if true, means Mercedes was benchmarking it against the Porsche. From what we can decipher from the pictures, there’s no SL-style trick folding hardtop here, just a traditional canvas roof, which aside from helping further distance the two cars from each other, should also help keep the weight down, which is essential to a pure sports car like the AMG GT. The Roadster also gets a newly designed boot lid that incorporates a third brake light.  We should see the Roadster retaining the  GT and GT S’ 4.0-liter  twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 456hp and 503hp respectively, but we wouldn’t rule out a more extreme version based on o...

Mercedes-AMG Boss Confirms GT Roadster For 2017

Image
While initial reports indicated towards a 2018 introduction of the  Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster , it seems that the manufacturer will offer it for sale starting next year.  Mercedes-AMG chairman, Tobias Moers, confimed the news to  AutoExpress , speaking about the soft-top version at the launch of the  GT R  where he said that it could show up by the end of this year. " The convertible has moved well beyond the drawing board. It will be the next AMG GT model to arrive ", Moers said, who isn’t concerned that a drop-top variant of the AMG GT would cannibalize the  SL , as he sees it as a grand tourer, while " this will absolutely be a proper sports car ".  Modifying the  AMG GT  in order to cope with the chopped roof won't dramatically affect the handling, as this will still be "a sharp driver's car", and the suspension won't require any major changes over the hardtop version either. Word on the street has it that keeping its weight down m...

Mercedes-AMG's New Beastly GT R With 585PS

Image
The  new flagship model  from Mercedes-AMG is finally here and it's every bit as impressive and aggressive as the German automaker has hinted that it would be. To start of, it's 90 kg (199 lbs) lighter than the AMG GT S, meaning it weighs just 1,554 kg (3,428 lbs). Its 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine now puts down 585 PS (577 HP) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, which is a much needed bump in power considering the competition. The seven-speed dual clutch gearbox has also been tweaked to deliver faster shifts, helping the car get from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds, before maxing out at 318 km/h (198 mph). This makes it faster than the GT S by 8 km/h (5 mph) and quicker off the line by 0.2 seconds. However, it's not just about straight line speed when it comes to this car. After all, Mercedes-AMG engineers didn't do all those  rigorous tests at the Nurburgring  just to have the GT R win some drag races. Visually, it all starts with the stance, which is a lot mo...
