Porsche is gearing up to introduce the 2020 Taycan next week, but that’s not the only electric vehicle in the company’s stable. Unveiled earlier today, the 99X Electric marks Porsche’s entry into the exciting world of Formula E. Porsche has hopes for the model as they said its name uses the ‘9’ twice to emphasize the “importance of the Formula E project” for the company. The automaker also said the race car will serve as a development platform for future production electric vehicles. On the styling front, there isn’t much to report as the car largely echoes the competition. However, the company applied a traditional Porsche motorsport livery which features black, white and red. The model also has prominent Porsche badging as well as labels promoting everything from Hugo Boss to Vodafone. Lamborghini Squadra Corse has taken the wraps off the new Urus ST-X concept. Created for a unique racing series that combines off-road driving with a traditional circuit, the Urus ST-X concept has an aggressive design and a matte Verde Mantis livery. Lamborghini didn’t go into too many specifics, but the racing crossover has been equipped with a ventilated carbon fiber hood, larger air intakes and 21-inch center-locking wheels with Pirelli tires. A closer inspection also reveals carbon fiber mirror caps, a small rear wing and “lateral racing exhausts with a new hexagonal design.” Since the crossover was designed for competition, it has been outfitted with a number of FIA-approved safety features including a steel roll cage, a fire suppression system and an FT3 fuel tank. Lamborghini Squadra Corse also worked their magic on the Urus and this led to a 25% weight reduction compared to the standard model. This suggests the concept weighs less than 3,637 lbs (1,649 kg). ...

Porsche has used the Rennsport Reunion to stage the surprise unveiling of the new 935 race car. Drawing inspiration from the iconic 935/78, the new model is a limited edition Clubsport race car that hasn’t been designed to compete in any particular series. The car is based on the 911 GT2 RS and features a retro-inspired body which is largely constructed out of lightweight carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) panels. The 935 also features an assortment of components shared with race cars including LED lights from the 919 Hybrid LMP1, side mirrors from the 911 RSR and titanium tailpipes which echo those on the 1968 Porsche 908. Last but not least, there are aerodynamically optimized wheels which mimic those on the 935/78. Moving into the cabin, there’s a carbon fiber steering wheel and digital instrument cluster sourced from the 2019 911 GT3 R. Revealed at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona is the EPCS V2.3 Tesla P100DL – the new race-ready version of the Model S that will form the basis of the Electric Production Car Series. The electric powertrain seems to have been altered slightly to produce 778 horsepower (585 kW) and 734 lb-ft (995 Nm) of torque. With the cockpit stripped out for competition, the organizers say it’ll run to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.1 seconds and top out at 250 km/h (155 mph). As you can see from the pictures, the bodywork seems to have been modified as well, with blistered wheel arches and a racing-spec aero kit to help keep the car glued to the track through the corners. A full grid of these cars will be deployed in a 10-race season. Rounds will be held in Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and Portugal, with the last race to be held at the end of October 2019 at Vallelunga on the outskirts of Rome. More than a year after it was presented in full, the Bugatti Chiron has finally set out on a record-breaking spree. With Juan Pablo Montoya in the driver's seat, the megacar proved that it needs only 41.96 seconds to go from 0 to 400km/h (248,55mph) and then back to 0, in a distance of 3.112km (1.933miles). The 400km/h (248.55mph) mark was reached 32.6 seconds / 2,621 meters (8,599feet), after which the 41-year old Colombian stepped firmly on the brakes and brought it to a complete stop, helped by the rear wing and special carbon discs, with titanium pistons. This is "the fastest time ever reached and officially measured for this driving maneuver for a production vehicle throughout the world", in Bugatti's own words, and it represents "the first step on the way to a new world speed record for production vehicles", which takes place in 2018. Mark Webber  announced that he will walking away from competitive racing at the end of the 2016 FIA  World Endurance Championship  season. The Australian driver announced his retirement earlier this morning. While Webber will stop racing for  Porsche , he will continue to represent the German automaker at events and will act as a consultant for its motorsport program. The 40-year old Webber retired from  Formula One  with 215 Grand Prix stars and nine victories under his belt at the end of 2013. After competing at the pinnacle of motorsport racing, Webber moved to the World Endurance Championship where he amassed seven wins to his name, three of which happened this year. Last year, Webber, with the help of Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley, won the World Drivers' Champion and finished second at the  24 Hours of Le Mans . "I have arrived where I belong," stated Mark Webber. "Porsche is the brand I always loved most and the one that suits me the best....
