Just when you thought the McLaren Senna was the epitome of the British brand’s current technology, the McLaren Senna GTR Concept has just been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, taking things to new heights. Despite having the word ‘Concept’ in its name, the McLaren Senna GTR has already been confirmed for production, following in the footsteps of the P1 GTR as a track-only model. Underpinning the McLaren Senna GTR Concept is the same Monocage III structure as the ‘ordinary’ Senna. The GTR will weigh roughly the same as the road car but benefit from more grunt. At this stage, all McLaren has said is that horsepower will sit above 825 PS. It is not the powertrain what really distinguishes the Senna GTR from the car on which it is based, however. McLaren Automotive is set to show its new Senna hypercar at the Geneva Motor Show for the first time next week. And when it does, it’ll wear a previously unseen “Carbon Theme.” One of five “themes” prepared by McLaren Special Operations for the new Ultimate Series model, the Carbon option is – as you might have guessed – characterized by its carbon-fiber appearance. The package comprises 67 parts that takes nearly 1,000 man-hours to produce. It also features yellow and green accents in reference to Ayrton Senna’s Brazilian heritage, taking another 250 hours to apply. This on top of the 300 hours it takes to hand-assemble each car. The treatment continues inside, where the black Alcantara trim features green stitching, along with the gas strut for the door, a yellow-hued steering wheel, and S logos on the headrests and rear-wing endplates. McLaren has finally introduced its long-anticipated hypercar, which we came to know under its P15 internal codename over the past year, as the Senna. It’s not exactly a direct replacement for the P1 as it will sit next to the brand’s upcoming three-seater BP23. The latest and newest member of McLaren’s Ultimate Series carries the name of legendary Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna, who won all three of his F1 driver titles with the team in 1988, 1990 and 1991. Why would I want one?
