Those craftsmen at Rolls Royce’s Goodwood factory sure have a solid work ethic. It was only earlier this week that Rolls announced it was getting back into the coachbuilding game full-time, and today it has presented the bespoke division’s first completed projected. Called the ‘Boat Tail’ this striking convertible takes its name from a series of very rare Rollers from the late 1920s and early 1930s. But its closest modern relation is the one-off Sweptail coupe unveiled at Villa d’Este in 2017. At the time, the Sweptail’s $12.8 m price made it the most expensive new car in the world. But it almost looks cheap next to the $28 m (£20 m) Boat Tail, which becomes the most expensive new car you can buy, far exceeding the $9.7 m Bugatti wants for a Centodieci. In fact, three Boat Tails have been built, each customised in terms of trim and materials to suit the whims of their owners, who have been assured that Rolls won’t be making more. After a prolonged teaser campaign, the 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost has been unveiled with a sharper yet evolutionary design and a host of new features. Underpinning the new Ghost is the same flexible aluminum architecture as the Phantom and Cullinan. For the Ghost, the moveable bulkhead, floor, cross members and sill panels were re-positioned to meet the demands of the British marque’s exclusive clientele, ensuring the Ghost is both enjoyable to drive and comfortable to be driven in. Powering the luxury car is a 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine pushing out 563 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. Rolls-Royce says this engine delivers maximum torque from just 1,600 rpm and that it features a distinctive porting in the air intake system to reduce unwanted engine sounds in the cabin. The engine is placed behind the Ghost’s front axle, providing the sedan with a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Rolls Royce has pulled the covers off the new Cullinan, the brand’s first-ever SUV and at the same time the world’s first super-luxury crossover. The name Cullinan comes after the largest diamond ever discovered, which now is part of the British Crown Jewels. Rolls Royce describes the Cullinan as an ‘all-terrain, high-bodied car that makes the idea of authentic, luxury off-road travel a reality for the first time’. After all, it was the customers who asked the British car maker to build the Rolls-Royce of SUVs. The new Rolls Royce Cullinan is the second model to be based on the new aluminum ‘Architecture of Luxury’ platform, after the latest Phantom. Under the bonnet sits a reworked twin-turbo 6.75-liter V12 engine that makes 563hp (571PS) and more importantly 627lb-ft (850Nm) of peak torque from just 1,600rpm. The world’s most luxurious crossover will be unveiled on May 10th as Rolls-Royce has confirmed the Cullinan will celebrate its world debut this Thursday at 7:00 am EDT. But before we see the first ever SUV from Rolls Royce in full, the British company will perform a tease,  releasing undisguised details of the posh crossover over the next few days, starting with a glimpse of the taillights today. The company is staying tight-lipped about specifics but the Cullinan will follow in the footsteps of the Phantom and adopt a familiar front fascia with a prominent grille that is flanked by rectangular headlights. Life is tough sometimes. Say you’re considering a Rolls-Royce convertible. But what you really want is a two-seater, and Goodwood only makes the Dawn with four. So what to do? The Dawn Aero Cowling could be your answer. It’s a specially crafted cover that goes over the rear seats of the Dawn cabriolet to give it more of a roadster-like profile. The unit is made of carbon fiber and aluminum to keep it nice and light, and is covered in the finest of leathers to match the interior. It even has storage compartments integrated into it to make it more versatile. And we gather that it’s removable to transform the Dawn back into a four-seater when needed. The new option is being displayed at the Geneva Motor Show this week on a silver Dawn with a tan and silver interior and 21-inch partially polished alloys. The tuners are drawing nearly as much water at the Geneva Motor Show this year as the automakers producing the vehicles on which they’re based. And Mansory isn’t missing out on the action. The typically over-the-top customizer has shown up in the Swiss town with no fewer than nine enhanced high-end European vehicles, ranging from the Bentley Bentayga to the Bugatti Veyron – with a golf cart thrown in for good measure. Possibly the most extreme among them is the Mansory Stallone – the tuner’s take on the Ferrari 812 Superfast. The twelve-cylinder Prancing Horse is thoroughly transformed (for better or worse) with a full carbon-fiber body kit. Underneath the overwrought bodywork, the 6.5-liter V12 has been bumped up from 789 horsepower to 830, with torque rising from 718 Nm (or 530 lb-ft) to 740 Nm (546 lb-ft).
