Sergio Marchionne Says Dodge And Chrysler Have A Future, Hints At New Charger And Challenger

Image
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recently wrapped up its Capital Markets Day event which primarily focused on Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Jeep and Ram. FCA decided to eschew a dedicated Chrysler and Dodge presentation but CEO Sergio Marchionne mentioned the brands a handful of times. Despite rumors to the contrary, he confirmed the future of both brands is “not in question” as they are important to the company’s North American lineup. While both brands are safe, there will be changes in the future. Autocar notes Marchionne said “Our view is that 70% of the US market is already non-sedan, so to try and build traditional sedans is not helpful.” However, that doesn’t mean the company is going all-in on trucks and crossovers as the executive stated “Brands like Dodge can play a role there because of their performance heritage.” That, of course, is a subtle hint there’s still a future for the Charger and Challenger. Marchionne mentioned the cars later on and Motor Authority says he downplayed s...

2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Facelift Gets Retro Dual Hood Scoops

Image
The four-year old Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will live on, as FCA has prepped a number of updates for the 2019MY. In a couple of teasers released today, the North American company has partially revealing the biggest change: a pair of hood scoops, inspired by past models. The new parts, described as a “dual-snorkel hood” by FCA, replaces the single piece found on today’s models. Moreover, it’s a throwback to the “distinctive Mopar design themes from some of its most famous muscle cars”, says the automaker, referring to some vehicles made in the mid-60s and early-70s, although we do remember some Pontiacs offered with dual hood scoops. With the new elements in place, the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat doesn’t only look “more sinister”, but it gets “maximum air intake to the supercharged powerplant”, claims FCA. Speaking of the engine, it’s unknown whether the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine will remain the same for the 2019MY. Still, with 707hp (717PS / 527kW) an...

2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Is The World’s Fastest 0-60mph Production Car

Image
Well, after one of the most drawn-out premiere's in recent memory, the covers have officially been taken off the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon at the New York Auto Show. Based around the Challenger SRT Hellcat, the Demon has undergone a comprehensive suite of modifications and Dodge claims that it is the world’s quickest accelerating production car and the fastest quarter-mile production car on the market. Power from the company’s 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine has been bumped from 707 hp in Hellcat-spec to 840 hp for the Demon. This power boost has been achieved with the installation of a larger, 2.7-liter supercharger, boost pressure rising from 14.5 psi to 11.6 psi, new pistons, rods and valve train being installed and the implementation of two dual-stage fuel pumps. Further engine upgrades include lifting the rev limit from 6,200 rpm to 6,500 rpm, strengthening the connecting rods and incorporating three sources of intake air (the hood, driver-side headlamp and an in...

Here It Is: Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Drags Its First Official Photo Online

Image
Dodge has kept our breaths properly baited for months now with incremental glimpses at its forthcoming flagship muscle car, and we've taken a few unauthorized peeks at it along the way. But here it is, at long last: our first official look at the new Demon. Set to be finally revealed in full this week at the New York Auto Show, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon may prove to be the most powerful production car ever offered. And as you can see, it certainly looks the part, with wider wheel arches, more aggressive aero, and a hood scoop that looks like it could swallow a smaller car whole. We'll have to wait a few more days to find out just how much muscle it puts down to the tarmac, but the Demon is already shaping up to hit dealerships as a drag racer for the road if we've ever seen one. It'll be 200 pounds lighter (thanks to a stripped-out interior) and offer twice as much grip (and 35 percent more launch force) than the Hellcat, which is hardly a slouch as i...

This Is How Dodge Saved 215 Pounds In The Challenger SRT Demon

Image
In developing the craziest muscle car of its time, the upcoming  Challenger SRT Demon , Dodge looked beyond simply upgrading its monstrous supercharged V8. As previously reported, the Demon will also benefit from a significant diet and now details of this new  weight-saving regime  have emerged. In order to drop 215 pounds from the car, Dodge immediately turned its attention to the cabin. For starters, the front passenger seat and seat belt assembly has been removed to shed 58 pounds. Additionally, the rear seat has been removed, saving 55 pounds, and a manual tilt-telescope steering wheel saves an additional 4 pounds. Elsewhere, Dodge has stripped away a plethora of sound-deadening parts to save a further 18 pounds while also adding smaller brakes (saving 16 pounds) and a set of custom 18x11-inch wheels that cut a further 16 pounds. The audio system has also been reduced to just two speakers while the trunk lining and spare tire have been scrapped, resulting in a tota...
