The times they are a-chargin’. With an eye into the future, Ferrari has introduced its first six-cylinder engine on a road-going model since the seventies, the new 296 GTB. Designed to slot into the range above the F8 Tributo, Ferrari says it’s ‘the most fun to drive car in our product range’. Called the 296 GTB, the new car swaps the F8’s turbocharged eight-cylinder engine for a hybridised V6, making this Ferrari’s first six-cylinder sports car since the Dino 246 (which didn’t actually wear Ferrari badges). It will cost €269,000 (equivalent to $321,000/£231,000), and the first cars should be with European customers in early 2022, with U.S. cars arriving later that year. But if you’re worried about the loss of two cylinders resulting in a drop in performance, you can rest easy. The 2.9-liter 120-degree V6 gasoline engine alone makes 654 hp, giving 218 hp per liter, which, says Ferrari, is the highest specific output of any production car on sale. Ferrari has held its Capital Markets Day event where the automaker has revealed an assortment of new details about their future product lineup. Ferrari has dipped their toes into the hybrid waters with models such as the LaFerrari, but the company is now fully embracing hybridization as the automaker revealed that approximately 60% of its vehicles will have a hybrid powertrain by 2022. This might not please the Ferrari faithful, but the company says their hybrid models will be “more fun to drive” while also having less CO2 emissions. Besides announcing plans for an assortment of new hybrids, Ferrari is tweaking its “strategic pillars” to include four types of vehicles. The first three are pretty familiar as they include the Sport range, the Gran Turismo range and the Special Series range. Jaguar has revealed the new F-Type which now gains more technology, new variants and slight design tweaks.  You would expect the British brand not to mess too much with  the successful shape of the F-Type  and you would be right; the new model only gets modestly changed model-specific bumpers which aim to freshen up its presence and new full LED headlights. The cabin on the other hand received more new stuff, with the highlight being the adoption of the company’s latest Touch Pro infotainment system as standard, featuring a high-resolution display, faster responses, real-time traffic info and more.  Jaguar has also included the new ReRun app with the car, which was co-developed with GoPro and combines the video from an action camera of the brand with key performance data real-time, including speed, throttle position, gear selection, braking force and g force.
