MG’s growing ambitions continue with a new show car, called X-Motion, which will celebrate its world premiere in Beijing, China, on April 25. Called the “SUV Captain” by the automaker in the short press release announcing its debut at Beijing, the MG X-Motion draws from the lines of the impressive E-Motion. At the front, it has a similarly shaped grille, flanked by the modern headlights with incorporated LED DRLs, and a muscular hood. The profile is sleek, and reminds of the aforementioned study, whereas at the rear it uses some Audi-like taillights. The new MG X-Motion Concept is believed to build upon the Roewe RX8, a flagship SUV made under the close watch of SAIC. The 4,923mm (193.8in) long, 1,930mm (76in) wide and 1,810mm (71.3in) tall RX8 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, rated at 221hp, which might also be found under the hood of the X-Motion. Under the patronage of SAIC, MG Motors has developed an entirely new MG6, which will go on sale in China this year, before being exported to the UK in 2018. Visually, the compact four-door model has a grille that appears to have been inspired by the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Concept, projector headlights with incorporated LED DRLs, and a fastback profile that's reminiscent of its predecessor. Inside, the new MG6 has a minimalistic dashboard design, large turbine-shaped side air vents, the Zebra 2.0 infotainment system, an interactive LCD instrument panel, 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, push-button start, sport front seats with manual adjustment, leather trim with contrast stitching, and carbon-like inserts. MG has revealed its new compact crossover will be called the XS in the United Kingdom. Set to go on sale this winter, the XS is essentially a renamed version of the ZS which debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show last year. MG declined to release specifications but the automaker confirmed the British model will be offered with two petrol engines which can be paired to either an automatic or manual transmission. That's not much to go on but the Chinese variant offers a naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter engine with 120 PS (118 hp / 88 kW) and 150 Nm (110 lb-ft) of torque. Customers can also order a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that develops 125 PS (123 hp / 92 kW) and 170 Nm (125 lb-ft) of torque. No powertrain details have been published by the company just yet but it is thought to be powered by an all-electric powertrain that offers up enough punch to accelerate the concept to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 4 seconds. Although the powertrain could appear in some form or another in a future MG vehicle, it is the exterior and interior design of the E-Motion that is of most importance as it previews the future design language for the company. A number of new pictures have been released of the MG E-Motion Concept prior to the vehicle’s debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. The E-Motion marks a significant departure from the vehicles the automaker is currently producing and while it isn’t known if MG intends on bringing it to the street, it could act as the halo sports car the brand so desperately needs. The nose of the MG E-Motion is characterized by a large grille with chrome accents and a set of sleek, LED headlights. Other noteworthy styling elements include the large wheels, butterfly doors, a huge glass panoramic roof and a Ferrari-esque rear end. Power for the E-Motion is expected to come from an electric powertrain capable of accelerating the concept to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 4 seconds and allowing for a 482 km (300 mile) range. Just a week after it emerged that MG may be plotting a new sports car, the British automaker has teased a low-slung concept car dubbed the E-Motion. Set to be unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show, the images released by SAIC (MG’s parent company) show that the E-Motion will adopt quite a radical design, far removed from any potential Mazda MX-5 rival the company could be planning. The front for example, consists of a chrome grille with a floating MG badge and a set of headlights that incorporate daytime running lights with a particularly interesting and curved design. At the sides, the MG E-Motion has long doors, bold character lines and hidden B-pillars while the tail has a steeply-raked window, a raised decklid and intriguing taillights. As the vehicle’s name implies, it will be powered by an electric powertrain and if current reports are believed, may be capable of hitting 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 4 seconds and achieve a range exceeding 300 miles.
