Infiniti Teases All-New 2018 QX80 Flagship SUV Ahead Of Dubai Debut

Image
Infiniti has just dropped the first teaser images of its upcoming 2018 QX80, which is set to make its debut at the Dubai International Motor Show on November 14. Just as we expected, the new generation QX80 looks heavily inspired by the QX80 Monograph Concept that was first seen at this year’s New York Auto Show. The company’s large SUV is set to adopt the concept’s fluid styling, retaining features like the shape of the front grille and that of the headlights as portrayed in these images. These changes are destined to make the new QX80 a much more attractive proposition than its predecessor, whose bulky exterior design didn’t win many fans. However and despite the all-new design, Infiniti is reportedly going to keep the existing platform as the basis of the new QX80, as well as the same powertrain. This should mean that the new 2018 Infiniti QX80 will be powered by a 5.6-liter V8 with 400hp and 413lb-ft of torque. The interior will be overhauled, packing all the be...

Dubai Announces Free Charging And Free Registration For EVs

Image
The city of Dubai has announced a host of incentives it hopes will encourage local residents to buy electric vehicles. Over the weekend, the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) joined the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to confirm the incentives which range from free registration through to free parking in the city. More specifically, the RTA will exclude EVs from registration and renewal vehicle fees, provide a free Salik tag (required to use Dubai highways), give EVs a unique number plate and provide free parking spots in 40 different locations set to be established by the end of the year. Additionally, DEWA will allow electric vehicle owners to use 100 different charging stations for free until the end of 2019. Speaking about the city’s push to increase the number of EVs on its roads, DEWA chief executive Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said the incentives will help increase interest in electric cars. “[The main challenge is] we don't see electric cars in the ma...

Bugatti's Opened Its Largest Dealership In Dubai

Image
Just a couple of weeks ago we brought you news of Lamborghini opening its largest showroom in the world. Now Bugatti has followed suit, and what would you know, it's not just in the same country – it's in the same city, on the same road. That city, of course, is Dubai – which may not be the largest of the United Arab Emirates by area, but has the largest population... and evidently the wealthiest. Along with Bugatti and Lamborghini, Bentley also has its largest dealership there. The Bugatti showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road encompasses nearly 2,600 square feet of floor space, which is only a little over a tenth the size of the Lamborghini facility. But then the Bugatti dealer only has one model to showcase (though we wouldn't be surprised to see a second-hand Veyron or two moved into the space at some point). Whatever the size, though, it'll be easy enough to spot for passers-by and prospective customers, with a 13-foot-tall horseshoe (mimicking the one on the Chiron...

Lamborghini Just Opened Its Largest Showroom Yet – Guess Where!

Image
Lamborghini doesn't need big showrooms. After all, it only produces two model lines, with the third soon to come. But that hasn't stopped it from opening its largest location yet... and you can probably guess where it's at. If you guessed the United Arab Emirates, you are correct. Dubai, specifically, at exit 41 on Sheikh Zayed Road (otherwise known as the E11, or the longest highway in the UAE). The facility encompasses nearly 20,000 square feet of floor space – nearly half an acre – on three levels. What the Raging Bull marque needs that much space for, we have no idea. One floor for each model line? The Middle East ranked as Lamborghini's sixth largest individual market in last year's sales, after the United States, Japan, the UK, Germany, and Canada, but ahead of China. And you can bet that the lion's share of those sales are taking place along the shores of the Persian Gulf, not in Syria or Iraq. We wouldn't be surprised, either, to see the Mid...

Uber Announces Plans For Flying Taxi Cars In Dallas And Dubai In 2020

Image
Uber is hoping to break its streak of bad news by announcing plans to launch its much-hyped flying taxi service in 2020. Announced at the Elevate conference in Dallas today, the ride-hailing giant has teamed up with the cities of Dallas-Fort Worth and Dubai to begin the new initiative. The Verge reports Uber will also be working with Hilwood Properties to identity potential heliports, dubbed “vertiports" in Uber speak, for the service in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The company has partnered with five different manufacturers to design and develop vertical takeoff and landing aircrafts which are lightweight and electrically powered. Before you decide to write the idea off, there are some big names involved including Bell Helicopters and Embraer. Unlike traditional flights, the service promises to be relatively affordable as Uber Chief Product Officer Jeff Holden told Reuters the company can get costs down to "$1.32 per passenger mile" in early operations. That mak...

Dubai Could Be First City To Get Commercial Hyperloop System

Image
Dubai's Port of Jebel Ali could be the first place to receive a commercial  hyperloop  system once testing of the concept is complete, reports the  Wall Street Journal . DP World, the large marine port operator that runs Dubai's port, has confirmed it will invest $50 million into  Hyperloop One , the company bringing Elon Musk's dream of a 5th mode of transport to the real world. According to Hyperloop One chairman Shervin Pishevar, the company has raised $160 million for the construction of its full-scale test track in Nevada and once the track is completed next year, plans another equity round. If the futuristic concept can be proved in testing, the Dubai port would be outfitted with a hyperloop system catering for cargo and include lengths both underwater and above ground.  Elon Musk's  idea for a hyperloop system was published in August 2013 and could see people traveling at speeds of 800 mph (1,280 km/h) inside steel tubes and on board train-like ca...
