BMW M8 Gran Coupe Debuts As A Sleek Four-Door Coupe With Up To 617 HP

Image
BMW has taken the wraps off the new M8 Gran Coupe. Set to arrive in the United States early next year, the high-performance model follows in the footsteps of the M8 Coupe and Convertible. As a result, the car is powered by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine that produces 592 hp (441 kW / 600 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. The engine is connected to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission which sends power to a rear-biased and defeatable all-wheel drive system. This setup enables the M8 Gran Coupe to rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.3 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of up to 190 mph (305 km/h) when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package. Buyers looking for more performance can order the M8 Competition Gran Coupe. It features an upgraded engine that develops 616 hp (460 kW / 625 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. Thanks to the extra power, the dash to 62 mph (100 km/h) is cut to 3.2 seconds. However, the top speed remains unchanged at 155 mph...

2020 BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe Combines Good Looks With Up To 523 HP

Image
The BMW 8-Series lineup is growing as the company has unveiled the all-new Gran Coupe variant. Looking significantly more attractive than the 6-Series Gran Coupe, the 8-Series has a familiar front fascia that closely echoes the standard model.  As a result, the car has a wide grille that is flanked by adaptive LED headlights with laserlights. Despite the familiar design, the Gran Coupe has a less rakish windscreen and a taller roof. The model also has two rear doors and a pronounced shoulder line.  A panoramic glass moonroof will come standard, but the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe will eventually be offered with an optional carbon fiber roof. Compared to the Coupe, the Gran Coupe is 9.0 inches (228.6 mm) longer, 1.2 inches (30.5 mm) wider and 2.2 inches (55.9 mm) taller.  The wheelbase has also been stretched by 7.9 inches (200.7 mm) to allow for more practical rear seats. Speaking of the latter, the model has an extra 3.4 inches (86.4 mm) of rear seat headroo...

BMW Drops The Top On The All-New 8-Series Convertible

Image
Following a leak earlier this week, BMW has unveiled the all-new 8-Series Convertible. Set to go on sale in the United States in March, the M850i xDrive Convertible follows in the footsteps of the 8-Series Coupe but adopts a retractable soft top which can be raised or lowered in 15 seconds at speeds up to 30 mph (48 km/h). The roof isn’t the only thing new as the convertible has a unique rear end and automatic rollover protection system which can deploy two high-strength aluminum roll bars within a fraction of a second. The rest of the design largely carries over from the M850i xDrive Coupe as drivers will find an aggressive front fascia with a wide grille that is flanked by adaptive LED headlights with laserlight technology. The convertible also has trapezoidal exhaust tips, LED taillights and 20-inch M lightweight alloy wheels. Customers looking for a sportier appearance can order the optional M Carbon Exterior Package. It adds an assortment of carbon fiber goodies inc...

2019 BMW 8-Series Convertible Uncovered Ahead Of Schedule

Image
The all-new 8-Series Convertible is one of the automaker’s worst kept secrets in recent years. After all, the spy shots we’ve seen so far revealed almost everything about BMW’s upcoming drop-top model. The only parts on the test prototypes that were covered in camo were the trunk lid and the rear fenders, leaving everything else exposed. Well, you can now see all of the 2019 8-Series Convertible, as official photos of the new model have leaked on the internet. Belgian website Autotijn apparently broke the embargo and released a set of official images ahead of schedule. As you probably know, the 8-Series Convertible will have its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show a month from now. Styling-wise, the cabriolet looks great with the soft top down, but the lack of a hardtop somehow makes it look more like a luxury car than a sports car. BMW describes the 8-Series Coupe as a proper sports car, so we’re curious to see if that tag will stick to the drop-top version as well...

BMW Confirms 8-Series Convertible, Gran Coupe To Launch Next Year

Image
BMW just rolled out the new 8-Series coupe – But as the “series” part likely tells you, it’s not done quite yet. During a conference call to discuss the company’s financial performance over the first half of this year, BMW’s chief executive announced that two more bodystyles of the new flagship coupe will launch next year. “We have another ace up our sleeve: A systematic expansion of our luxury segment,” declared Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “Within the new 8 series model range, production of the new BMW 8 Series Coupé is already underway. The market launch is scheduled for November. This will be followed in 2019 by the Convertible and Gran Coupé, as well as the corresponding M models.” So with the coupe already revealed in both M850i and 840d specs, we can expect the convertible and four-door Gran Coupe bodystyles to launch with the same. And once the M models are rolled out, we’ll be looking at no fewer than nine versions to flesh out the 8 S...

2019 BMW 8-Series Revealed

Image
BMW has finally pulled the wraps off the new 8-Series Coupe at Le Mans, following various leaks, countless scoops and reports on the new Bavarian flagship model. BMW is keen to point out that the new 8-Series Coupe’s primary objective is to offer thrilling driving dynamics. The chassis, powertrain and suspension were honed to offer “supreme agility, precision and poise expected of a topclass sports car”, which sounds pretty bold if you consider that the 8-Series is also considered a luxury coupe as well. Perhaps this is why BMW chose Le Mans to unveil the new 8-Series, in order to establish the sporty credentials of its new flagship coupe. The exterior design of the new 8-Series is sleek and dynamic, blending muscular surfaces in a cleaner package that looks and feels 100 percent BMW. Of course, the huge kidney grille helps bystanders into figuring out rather quickly its Bavarian roots. The new BMW 8-Series measures 4,843mm in length, 1,902mm in width, 1,341mm in...

BMW Confirms 8-Series Coupe Debut At 24 Hours Of Le Mans

Image
Following three concepts and more scoops than we can count, BMW will reveal in full, the production version of the new 8-Series Coupe on June 15, at the eve of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This was deemed as the perfect moment to unveil their new luxury sports car as the Bavarian automaker is also celebrating its return to the Le Mans endurance race for the first time since 2011, with the M8 GTE. The new 8-Series Coupe will debut in M850i xDrive form, powered by a heavily re-engineered 4.4-liter V8, making 523 HP (530 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of peak torque. It will be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and will send its power to an intelligent all-wheel drive system that features an active rear differential. The chassis of the new 8-Series will also get an active rear-steering system, a next-gen adaptive suspension with active roll stabilization and will feature 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels shod with sticky tires. “There isn’t be a better setting for th...

BMW 8-Series Convertible Interior Leaked

Image
BMW has done a pretty good job in keeping some of the design elements and oily bits of the new 8-Series family a secret so far. Nevertheless, a set of images, shared by Wilcoblok on Instagram reveal the interior design of the posh Convertible. And, for the first time, there isn’t any camouflage to keep parts of the dashboard away from our eyes. As a result, say hello to a new digital instrument cluster, which was already previewed by the automaker a month ago. It brings new graphics, a central area that shows the navigation, and probably other functions, too, tachometer, speedometer, coolant and fuel gauges, all wrapped in a larger display. It will also be adopted by the facelifted 7-Series and upcoming X7, as well. BMW isn’t quite ready to ditch the physical buttons yet, so the new BMW 8-Series models have plenty of these scattered around the dashboard and central console. Notice the new infotainment system that sits on top of the central air vents, which appears to be a b...

New BMW M850i xDrive Coupe First Official Details, Gets 523HP

Image
BMW may still have the proverbial camouflage covers on their new 8-Series, but today, they uncovered details on the M850i xDrive Coupe. Described as a perfectly harmonized package offering “fascinating sportiness and supreme comfort,” the M Performance model will be equipped with a “completely redeveloped V8 engine” that produces 530 PS (390 kW / 523 hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. Despite having 68 PS (50 kW / 67 hp) and 100 Nm (73 lb-ft) more power than the 4.4-liter V8 in the 650i, the new engine weighs the same. The V8 will be connected to an improved eight-speed automatic transmission which has an “expanded spread and further shortened shift times.” It will send power to the ground through via a rear-biased all-wheel drive which features an active locking rear differential. BMW isn’t ready to share full specifications yet but a previous report, which correctly predicted the model’s output, suggested the car could accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in less th...
