BMW Confirms 8-Series Convertible, Gran Coupe To Launch Next Year
BMW just rolled out the new 8-Series coupe – But as the “series” part likely tells you, it’s not done quite yet.
During a conference call to discuss the company’s financial performance over the first half of this year, BMW’s chief executive announced that two more bodystyles of the new flagship coupe will launch next year.
“We have another ace up our sleeve: A systematic expansion of our luxury segment,” declared Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “Within the new 8 series model range, production of the new BMW 8 Series Coupé is already underway. The market launch is scheduled for November. This will be followed in 2019 by the Convertible and Gran Coupé, as well as the corresponding M models.”
So with the coupe already revealed in both M850i and 840d specs, we can expect the convertible and four-door Gran Coupe bodystyles to launch with the same. And once the M models are rolled out, we’ll be looking at no fewer than nine versions to flesh out the 8 Series family – all before the end of 2019. And don’t be surprised to see additional engine variants offered as well.
Once the rollout is complete, the new 8 Series will have completely replaced the outgoing 6 Series as the top coupes in BMW’s range.
What’s more is that Krüger confirmed that the iNEXT concept will launch in production spec in the second half of the year. This on top of the X2, X4, X5, and X7 crossovers – all rolling out in fresh forms, and the new Z4 to launch next year as well.
“As you can see: We are driving full speed ahead – in the major regions of the world, with innovative technologies and with new products,” concluded Krüger. “We continue to follow our clear strategic roadmap and remain highly flexible.”
