Mendy Moves To Manchester City For Record Fee

Image
Benjamin Mendy has completed his switch from Monaco to Manchester City, with the English side paying £52 million for the left-back. With the deal, Mendy, who turned 23 on July 17, has become the most expensive defender in football history and eclipses the £45m fee City paid for Kyle Walker last week that made the England star the game’s most expensive full-back. The France international has signed a five-year deal with the Etihad Stadium outfit, becoming their fourth major signing of a window that has also seen them sign Benfica goalkeeper Ederson as well as Mendy’s Monaco team-mate Bernardo Silva. Manager Pep Guardiola is focussing on the long term with City, explaining on Thursday that the players he is targeting this summer “are young players, with the next three, four, five years in mind”. Mendy, who joined Monaco last summer in a €12m deal from Marseille, helped the Stade Louis II side win the Ligue 1 title last season, creating nine goals in only 32 out...

Manchester City Sign Danilo From Real Madrid

Image
Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Danilo from Real Madrid in a £26.5 million deal. The 26-year-old has joined City on a five-year contract and will immediately link up with Pep Guardiola's squad in the United States, where he may make his City debut in the International Champions Cup. As reported by Goal, City beat competition from Chelsea for the Brazil international and the club are also confident of securing the services of another full-back in Monaco's Benjamin Mendy, with confirmation of his arrival imminent. Danilo's arrival takes City's spending on full-backs past the £70m mark this close-season after they paid an initial £45m for Tottenham's Kyle Walker – a deal that could rise to an eventual £50m. City have seen a number of defenders depart the club since the end of last season. Aleksandar Kolarov was sold to Roma on Saturday, following Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna in leaving. Pep Guardiola is understood to envisage ...

Dani Alves Snubs City to Sign for PSG

Image
PSG have confirmed the signing of Dani Alves, much to the dismay of Manchester City. The Brazilian moves to France on a two-year deal from Juventus, having been released from his contract in Turin, but his destination has surprised many. Alves appeared set to move to the Etihad Stadium to become City's third signing of the summer following the acquisitions of Bernardo Silva from Monaco and Ederson from Benfica. The former Barcelona defender will earn a whopping £230,000 per week at Parc des Princes following his second free transfer in as many years. The club have also revealed he will wear the No.32 - following in the footsteps of David Beckham and David Luiz - as he battles for a place in the starting XI with Thomas Meunier and Serge Aurier. "I am extremely pleased to join Paris Saint-Germain," he told the club's website. "In recent years, I had been able to watch from the outside the tremendous growth of this club, which has become a str...

OFFICIAL: Toure signs new one-year Manchester City deal

Image
Yaya Toure will stay put at Manchester City for at least another season after signing a one-year contract extension on Thursday. The explosive midfielder appeared to be on the way out at the Etihad Stadium after starting Pep Guardiola's tenure warming the bench. Toure, however, muscled his way back into contention and was a vital part of City's fight to reach next year's Champions League, a feat achieved on the last day of the season as they sealed third place. And now he has quashed any further speculation on his future by putting pen to paper on a fresh deal. “Yaya has been a fantastic servant for Manchester City and continues to be a vital member of Pep Guardiola’s squad," City’s Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said in a statement released by the club on its official website. “He is one of our most experienced and popular players and we couldn’t be happier that he is staying with us as we embark on what we all hope will be a very exciting season....

Man City sign Ederson for £35 million from Benfica

Image
Manchester City have made Benfica goalkeeper Ederson their second signing of the summer after completing the second-most expensive goalkeeper deal in history. The 23-year-old - who is yet to make his debut for Brazil - signed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, with the move completed on Thursday. Ederson will cost City £35 million, making him - in pound sterling - the most expensive goalkeeper in history, surpassing the £33m Juventus paid Parma for Gianluigi Buffon in 2001. However, City are keen to stress that it's not a world record as the amount in Euros, which is how they paid Benfica (€40m), is lower than how much Juve paid for Buffon (€53m) in 2001. Ederson flew into Manchester on Monday and was at City's training ground on Tuesday to complete a medical and conduct interviews with the club's in-house media channels, but official confirmation of his signing was held up by third-party ownership issues. He will battle with Claudio Bravo for a place in t...

Manchester City confirm Pablo Zabaleta exit

Image
Pablo Zabaleta will leave Manchester City at the end of the season, the club have confirmed. Zabaleta and City have reached a mutual agreement that his contract, which ends in July, will not be extended. The Argentine signed for City from Espanyol in 2008, one day before the Abu Dhabi takeover, and has played a major role in establishing the club as one of the biggest in England. The announcement that he will leave the Etihad Stadium comes five years to the day since City clinched their first Premier League title against Queens Park Rangers, with Zabaleta scoring the opening goal in a famous 3-2 victory. In total the 32-year-old has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups during his time in English football. "Pablo Zabaleta will leave City at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on an incredible nine-year association with the Blues," the club wrote in a statement published on their official website. "The 58-times capped Arg...
