Does The Cadillac XT4 Have What It Takes To Top It's Segment?

Image
Late last month, Cadillac surprised the world as they took the wraps off the latest addition to their lineup, a compact CUV called the XT4. It's more of the same, yet something completely new from the American luxury carmaker. More of the same because it's very similar to the larger XT5, and something different because it's the first time Cadillac has made a compact luxury crossover. Think of it as a potential ATS replacement. Since the luxury crossover segment is a rapidly growing one, it's no surprise Cadillac has jumped on the bandwagon with it's second CUV, to sit alongside the larger XT5. While the XT5 does battle with BMW's X5, Merc's GLC, Audi's Q5, Porsche's Macan-and to some extent, Cayenne, Volkswagen's Touareg, Lexus' RX and Alfa Romeo's Stelvio, among others, the XT4 is set to battle the Merc GLA, Lexus' NX, Audi's Q3, BMW X3 and probably a few more. If you look at the spec sheets, you might think that this ne...

2019 Cadillac XT4 Debuts With Turbo Power And An Affordable Price Tag

Cadillac’s sedan-focused lineup is finally getting some much needed relief as the company has taken the wraps off the 2019 XT4. Looking like a shrunken down version of the XT5, the XT4 has a familiar design as it adopts a wide grille which is flanked by drooping LED headlights. The crossover also has a bulging hood, streamlined bodywork and black plastic body cladding. Three different versions will be available and each model will have distinctive styling inside and out. The entry-level XT4 Luxury starts at $35,790 and features satin aluminum exterior trim and 18-inch alloy wheels with a bright silver finish. Inside, the model has power front seats, aluminum trim and leatherette upholstery. Drivers will also find a dual-zone automatic climate control system and four USB ports. The XT4 Premium Luxury goes one step further as it has satin aluminum roof rails, illuminated door handles and 18-inch wheels with a pearl nickel finish. The crossover also comes equipped w...

Cadillac President Says Upcoming Sedan Will Own The Nürburgring

Image
Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen recently blamed a decline in sedan sales on America’s crumbling infrastructure and younger consumers who are “less tuned into dynamics and handling” than their parents. This sparked a lot of backlash as it seemed like the typical millennial bashing but the executive has expanded on his comments in an interview with Jalopnik. Saying things aren’t always black and white, de Nysschen backtracked as he said he didn’t mean to imply “if you’re a young buyer, a millennial or a teenager, that you don’t enjoy driving.” Instead, the problem seems more complicated as the executive noted buyers in markets such as China want a comfortable vehicle and they “don’t need to do 0-60 mph in four seconds” or lap the “Nürburgring in nine minutes flat.” de Nysschen went on to talk about the need for crossovers but his most interesting comment was about the upcoming entry-level sedan. He said the model will have rear-wheel drive and be able to “lap the Nürburgring ...

New Cadillac Compact SUV To Be Named The XT4, Arrives In 2018

Image
Cadillac has announced that its new crossover will be dubbed the XT4, rather than the XT3 name it was initially thought to adopt. The automaker confirmed the news at the ongoing 2017 Geneva Motor Show while announcing that the XT4 will launch in the United States in 2018 before subsequently arriving in Europe. In a statement, Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen said “A new compact crossover called XT4 will debut in 2018 in the US and subsequently in Europe, with an entirely new series of efficient and powerful engines. Starting with the launch of XT4, a new Cadillac will be brought to market every six months, a total of five car-lines in the space of two years.” As the name suggests, the XT4 will slot below the XT5 and Escalada in Cadillac's SUV/crossover range and early next decade, be accompanied by a smaller crossover that could adopt the XT3 name. In its efforts to rival the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, the Cadillac XT4 should be powered by a four-cylinder...
