2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Laps Nurburgring In 6:56.4 Minutes

Image
Earlier this week, it was reported that the new Porsche 991.2 GT3 RS had lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife in under 7 minutes. Now, we have official conformation as well as the video to prove it. The 6:56.4 minute time was set by Porsche works driver Kevin Estre, who shared the wheel with development driver Lars Kern. The new 911 GT3 RS now joins the 918 Spyder and 911 GT2 RS as the third production Porsche with a notarized lap time of under 7 seconds at the Nordschleife. “No other Porsche model gets as close to racing as the new GT3 RS. Many innovative ideas from top-level motorsport were transferred; for example, from the 911 GT3 R. This is what our philosophy for GT models is about: Highest technology must be fascinating but tangible. In this regard there is no harder test for our ideas than the Nordschleife,” stated Porsche’s VP of motorsport and GT cars, Frank Steffen Walliser. Estre started his record lap at 11:40 AM in ideal driving conditions, with a 14-degree Cel...

Porsche 911 GT3 RS Facelift Unveiled With 520 HP

Porsche has taken the wraps off the facelifted 911 GT3 RS. Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the updated model has a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that produces 520 PS (383 kW) which is an increase of 20 PS (15 kW). It is connected to a specially calibrated seven-speed PDK transmission which enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 312 km/h (193 mph). The engine isn’t only thing that has been updated as the car features a modestly revised front fascia with a larger spoiler. Designers also installed new side skirts, revised lighting units and a hood with two vents to improve brake cooling. The changes don’t stop there as the model has 20- and 21-inch lightweight wheels and a new engine cover with an integrated third brake light. Thanks to these and other changes, the 911 GT3 RS produces more than twice as much downforce as the 911 GT3 at 200 km/h (124 mph). The sporty st...

As the 992-generation Porsche 911 is fast approaching, the German marque has decided now is the perfect time to send out the current 991.2-generation model with a bang. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the facelifted 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, leaked online via three low-resolution images. First published, and since deleted, by Australian publication Drive, these images reveal that the updated GT3 RS receives all the same styling modifications as the 991.2 911 GT3 and mixes them with the more overt aerodynamic elements required of any RS-branded model. With this in mind, the new GT3 RS receives the same angular front air intakes and thin LED daytime running lights as the GT3. From there, Porsche engineers have created a custom hood complete with two small NACA ducts. Other visible upgrades at the front include the same front wheel arch louvers as the outgoing GT3 RS. Moving to the sides and the car looks very familiar to the existing model, complete with the same stickers and ma...
