McLaren chose the 2019 Geneva Motor Show to further expand its 720S Spider portfolio by adding this bespoke MSO-tuned model to the mix. What makes it entirely unique is its innovative Coriolis tri-tone color scheme, where each aero accent is comprised of three different MSO metallic paints: Cerulean Blue, Burton Blue (as seen on the 720S GT3), and Abyss Black. It took MSO more than 260 hours to complete the tri-tone paint elements. The Mclaren Super Series lineup is growing as the company has dropped the top on the all-new 720S Spider. Following in the footsteps of the coupe, the roadster features a familiar front fascia with distinctive headlights. Bigger changes occur aft of the A-pillar as the 720S Spider has a retractable hard top that consists of a single carbon fiber roof panel. McLaren says the hard top is the “fastest-operating convertible roof in the supercar class” as it can be raised or lowered in 11 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph (50 km/h). Customers looking to fully embrace the open air experience can order an optional electrochromic glass panel for the hard top. It transitions from transparent to tinted at the touch of a button and the panel will automatically tint itself when the engine is shut off. McLaren has announced the date for the new 720S Spider’s reveal, which will make its world debut online on December 8. The open-top version of the McLaren 720S will become the brand’s second new model under the company’s Track25 Business plan, following the reveal of the 250mph Speedtail last month. The new 720S Spider will join the 570S Spider in McLaren’s convertible range and is expected to feature a folding hard-top, just like its little brother. Chopping off the roof will likely come with a slight weight penalty, but expect nearly identical structural rigidity, thanks to McLaren’s carbon MonoCage II chassis. The powertrain will remain the same, meaning a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 710hp (720PS) bolted to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Two new McLaren 720S designs have been brought to life as bespoke commissions by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), after being previewed earlier this year in Geneva. The 720S Pacific Theme and 720S Track Theme are said to be from the same porfolio as the McLaren 720S Velocity Theme, the latter also a visitor of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and future attendee of the Salon Privé at the end of this month. “The 720S is an exceptional car in every respect in standard form but there is always the potential to make it even more special with additional, individual, creative input, which is where McLaren Special Operations comes in,” stated MSO exec, Ansar Ali. “We were overwhelmed by the reaction to the 720S Velocity at its unveiling and to bring to life two more versions of the MSO 720S Themes portfolio further demonstrates that MSO can fulfill any request to ensure that a car perfectly meets and customer’s vision.” The first 720S Track Theme has been commissioned by McLaren ...

The new Senna and its GTR concept may be taking up most of the spotlight on McLaren’s stand at the Geneva Motor Show this year, but it’s far from the only supercar the manufacturer brought out. Along with it, McLaren Special Operations is displaying this rather elegant-looking 720S, painted a unique shade called Atlantic Blue. Presented at the same show a year after the debut of the first MSO-customized 720S – called Velocity – the Atlantic Blue example shows an altogether more understated take on Woking’s acclaimed supercar. In addition to the special paint, MSO’s latest 720S features Dark Palladium trim, glossy visual carbon fiber, Zircon window surrounds, a titanium-finish exhaust, and black brake calipers inside twin-spoke alloys in Graphite Grey. McLaren will start testing the new 720S GT3 race car in 2018, with first customer teams receiving their cars by 2019 but that’s not the only news coming from the British supercar maker. The company has also successfully established a global network of specialist motorsport retailers, with plans to launch a one-make GT-racing series and a Driver Development Programme in 2018. The Persian Gulf is a vital market for exotic automakers – not least for McLaren, which is out to make a splash at this year's Dubai Motor Show with this one-of-a-kind 720S. Commissioned by a local client, this 720S has been extensively personalized by McLaren Special Operations with a satin black paintjob and gold trim. But that's just the start. The rear wing is inscribed with an Arabic translation of a quote from the company's namesake founder Bruce McLaren: “Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone.” The script is stylized to emulate the Dubai skyline, and like the wheels and interior trim, is done up in gold tone to stand out from the matte black background. McLaren celebrated the start of the full production of the new 720S with the completion of the first example, finished in Glacier White. The second generation of the Super Series, codenamed P14, opens a new chapter in McLaren’s history as it replaces the P11 model family that kickstarted the whole company around six years ago. McLaren Automotive chief executive Mike Flewitt has confirmed that an LT version of the brand new 720S will be created. The carmaker famously resurrected the Longtail or LT name for the 675LT in 2015 and positioned the car as a faster, lighter and more hardcore variant of the 650S. McLaren thinks the popularity of the LT model can be replicated for the second-generation Super Series. “The 675LT was a huge success. I was delighted from a market perspective, but also internally because we love that car. We have a huge enthusiasm for it. We’ll certainly repeat Long Tail, and now that the LT brand is established, if we announce an LT derivative of a car, then everyone will know what to expect: that it will be lighter, the chassis dynamics will be way sharper, and it will have more power.
