Porsche’s Electric Taycan Shows Its Face On First Official Images
Following a set of sketches, Porsche has released the first official images of the Taycan EV in its production form. The pictured car is wearing a colorful wrap to keep some of the final details a secret but we can get a pretty good idea of what the first all-electric Porsche will look like.
Featuring the slogan “Soul, Electrified” on the windshield, the new Porsche Taycan comes with a front end that looks and feels like a Porsche; the headlights appear to wear a sticker that make them look like the units in the Cayman and Boxster models but look closely and you’ll notice the quad-LED units per corner in a similar arrangement with the Mission E concept.
The overall design appears to remain close to that of the concept, minus of course dramatic details such as the suicide rear doors. The production Taycan will feature a set of ‘normal’ doors instead, which will use handles that sit flush with the bodywork, in a similar fashion with the latest 911. You can also notice the charging port on the front left fender in the new images. The rear end features a full-width LED light bar.
Porsche will start production of the Taycan this September and has secured already more than 20,000 orders worldwide. The new electric Taycan will hit the market with a range of at least three versions, featuring different electric motors and battery specs. The range-topping Taycan (rumored to be called the Taycan Turbo) is expected to offer over 600hp and a driving range of 310 miles (500km).
More importantly, Porsche will debut its innovative 800-volt technology with the Taycan, which will reportedly enable it for shorter charging cycles and better performance. By using a compatible charger, customers will be able to give the Taycan 250 miles of range (400km) in less than 20 minutes.
Porsche will offer the Taycan eventually with two bodystyles; the 2019 saloon -pictured here- and the Cross Turismo, a high-riding wagon version which will follow in 2020. Porsche is already accepting orders for the Taycan.
