Karma Teases Pininfarina-Designed Concept Ahead Of Shanghai Debut

Karma Automotive has dropped the first teaser image of a new concept car that will debut at Auto Shanghai 2019 (April 16-24).

The as-of-yet-unnamed study is the first concrete result of Karma’s collaboration with Italian design and engineering house Pininfarina announced in January. No other details were released but Karma did show a teaser photo of the mystery concept.

It shows the front end of the car that boasts a sleek DRL signature, illuminated logo, and a sculpted bumper consisting of a middle segment that separates two sections featuring eight vertical slats each. The study appears to be low and wide, so we can speculate on it being a four-door coupé, just like the Revero.

When the deal with Pininfarina was announced in January, Karma said it would help it “accelerate future technology and product development through Pininfarina’s turn-key automotive experience.”

“Karma is united in spirit with Pininfarina through our shared commitment to stunning design, and we are excited about the reaction we anticipate the end result of our partnership will generate,” said Karma CEO Dr. Lance Zhou.

In addition to the Pininfarina-designed concept car, Karma will have two other debuts at Auto Shanghai 2019: a next-generation luxury electric Revero and an all-electric Karma Vision concept. Together, Karma says they will form its “Shanghai Big Three” product announcements.

The new Revero is expected to go on sale in the second half of this year. Spy photos have revealed it will actually be a facelift rather than an all-new model, bringing new bumpers as well as restyled headlights and taillights.

As for the Karma Vision concept, the teaser image released last week revealed full-width taillights and a compact greenhouse. According to Karma Automotive, the Vision study previews the company’s “long-term direction in terms of luxury craftsmanship, advanced technology, and evolution in luxury design language.”
