Tesla Drops New Model Y Compact SUV Teaser Before March 14 Unveiling
Tesla has dropped a new teaser image of the Model Y compact premium crossover before the vehicle’s global premiere on March 14.
This image, sent out as part of an invitation for the vehicle’s launch, provides a glimpse of the Model Y’s front end. It shows the SUV with a blue paint scheme and unlike previous images, depicts the vehicle with traditional wing mirrors.
In typical Tesla fashion, there’s also a hidden Easter Egg in the teaser. As a number of Tesla enthusiasts recently discovered, trying to brighten up the image shows some additional details of the vehicle as well as a license plate reading ‘Nice Try’. Tesla is clearly one step ahead.
While the teaser itself doesn’t reveal a whole lot about the Model Y, it does show that its headlights will more closely resemble those of the Model 3 than the larger Model S sedan and Model X SUV.
When Tesla chief executive Elon Musk first announced that the Model Y would be unveiled on March 14, he said that it will be roughly 10 per cent larger than the Model 3 sedan and cost about 10 per cent more. Additionally, it is reported that the Model Y will share approximately 75 per cent of its parts with the Model 3 and will likely be offered with the same powertrain configurations as its sedan sibling.
Tesla initially said that the SUV would ride on a bespoke platform. However, Musk has since decided to use the Model 3’s architecture, probably in an attempt to reduce development costs.
