Imagine By Kia Is An EV Concept That’s Meant To Transcend Segments

Kia has just premiered an eye-catching concept at Geneva. Literally dubbed ‘Imagine by Kia’, the vehicle has been designed as a “category buster” and certainly captures your attention.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Imagine by Kia is its curious shape. It is not a sedan, not an SUV, and not a traditional crossover. According to the South Korean automaker, it is meant to represent a medium between the three – and we’d say that it largely succeeds.

The front includes a set of headlights made up of a strip of horizontal LEDs and daytime running lights around them. Kia calls the vehicle’s headlights “eyelids” and the front is made even more eye-catching thanks to a ripple effect across the lower flanks of the front bumper.

Elsewhere, the Imagine by Kia includes turn signals incorporated into the side streaks and a special chrome-effect shade of silver with six hand-applied layers of paint. There’s also hidden turn signals at the rear and two horizontal taillights that mimic the look of the headlights, as well as 22-inch wheels with bespoke Goodyear rubber.

If you thought the exterior was bold, just wait until you lay your eyes on the interior. Kia has designed 21 ultra high-resolution screens which curve their way across the top of the dashboard to create an effect unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. We don’t expect a production Kia to feature a dashboard design like this anytime soon, especially as it’s meant to highlight today’s screen overkill.

Funnily enough, Kia says these screens “are a humorous and irreverent riposte to the on-going competition between some automotive manufacturers to see who can produce the car with the biggest screen.” Kudos, Kia, for trolling the “tablets everywhere” craze that’s taken over the automotive industry.

Beyond the array of screens, the Imagine by Kia includes a distinctive steering wheel and silk-trimmed seats. The cabin is sparse, airy, and very futuristic.

While the vehicle is based on an electric architecture, it is very much a design concept.
