Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV Makes A Brief Pass In Official Video

With the countdown to the new Stelvio SUV’s world premiere at the 2016 LA Auto Show in mid-November officially on, Alfa Romeo is getting ready to begin production at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Cassino Assembly Plant.

A new FCA video showcasing the factory that also manufacturers Alfa’s Giulietta compact hatch and new Giulia sedan gave us a (deliberately?) quick glimpse of the Stelvio on the assembly line.

The design of Alfa’s first true SUV seems to be more in the mold of the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe than the X3 and GLC, but at the end of the day, it will compete with all compact premium crossovers, including the Jaguar F-Pace, Porsche Macan and Audi Q5, regardless of the shape of their roof.

The front end styling won’t be the only common element between Tipo 949 codenamed Alfa and the Giulia saloon, as the two models will share interior bits - as seen in recent spy shots, platform and engine range, including a selection of 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline and 2.2-liter diesel lumps, and a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 with around 500 horses in the Quadrifoglio high-performance model

It is understood that Alfa will offer the Stelvio with both rear- and all-wheel drive, paired to manual or automatic gearboxes.

The Italian SUV will go on sale worldwide next year.
