SsangYong LIV-2 SUV Concept Revealed At 2016 Paris Auto Show

As a large premium SUV, the LIV-2 concept (Limitless Interface Vehicle) previews another key strategic SsangYong model set to be introduced sometime next year.

The LIV-2 also represents the next iteration from the LIV-1 concept which SsangYong previously showcased during the 2013 Seoul Motor Show. Its design goal is to pursue the emotional interface between the driver, passengers and car while also reproducing the Korean automaker's design philosophy of "Nature-born 3Motion".

Styling-wise, the LIV-2 features a cohesive appearance at the front where the grille and headlights blend in seamlessly, while the matte white body and white-hued interior are meant to emphasize a futuristic and powerful aura both inside and out.

"The LIV-2 showcases our luxurious approach to the extremely popular SUV concept, while also applying advanced technologies and high levels of safety," explained company CEO Johng-sik Choi. "We are confident that this is going to be another landmark model, and will take the SsangYong brand to the next level. Thereafter, we will be adding a new model every year for the next couple of years, each one designed to broaden our brand appeal to customer groups and international markets."

Other notable features for the exterior include the electric steps fitted on both sides, plus the advanced technology that illuminates a path for passengers either approaching or leaving the car at night.

Inside, the idea was to create a contemporary executive lounge within a luxury, chauffeur driven limousine - which is why the LIV-2 concept features individual seats and a fully connected center console for the rear seat passengers. Each seat also reclines and has a massage function available at the touch of a button. In terms of connectivity, there's an integrated communication system utilizing a 9.2" monitor in the center fascia and a 10.1" monitor in each headrest, offering Wi-Fi mirroring for devices as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features.

Powering the LIV-2 is SsangYong's own 181 PS 2.2-liter euro 6 diesel engine capable of delivering a peak torque figure of 420 Nm (309 lb-ft) between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm, working together with a 7-speed Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission offering a optimal performance and efficiency, according to the automaker. A newly developed 2.0-liter GDi turbocharged petrol engine is also available, producing 225 PS and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque.

As for safety, the LIV-2 comes with no fewer than nine airbags (front, front & rear side, curtain and driver's knee), an advanced emergency braking system (AEBS), lane departure warning, blind spot detection, lane change assist, traffic safety assist and high beam assistance for optimum nighttime vision.

While present at this year's Paris Auto Show, SsangYong have also announced enhancements for their Tivoli and Tivoli XLV models which are to receive new safety features such as the AEBS system as standard, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, high beam assistance and traffic signal recognition. Other improvements include fully adjustable steering wheel for rake and reach, better ventilation for the front seat passenger and reclining rear seats for optimum comfort. The XLV also gets heated rear seats for extra passenger comfort during winter.
