Lamborghini Pledges The Urus Will Be Able To Dune Surf
As the Urus inches closer to production, it becomes abundantly clear that it will be a proper Lamborghini.
Various reports have suggested that the model won’t shy away from Lamborghini's mental roots, offering the same amount of lunacy as you’d expect from a car bearing the Raging Bull. Even CEO Stefano Domenicali said it in an interview with Car Advice:
“Yes. It’s a pure Lamborghini. This was one of the most important discussions, it is outstanding. The things we discussed several times and feedback from the board was for it to be a real Lamborghini. If you perceive and close the eyes without seeing anything and drive the car, you will know it’s a real Lamborghini.”
Having built the LM002 in the past, the Italian car maker has some experience with SUVs, although the Rambo Lambo’s successor will be a different type of animal. It will be more chiseled, more composed; an SUV inspired by supercars instead of tanks, but it will still stay true to its ancestor's heritage and…“dune surf”.
"With an SUV you need to have a level of torque at low rpm and only a turbo engine can release this. Otherwise, if you want to do… dune surfing… without a turbo you don’t have enough torque to come out from the dune", Lamborghini board member for research and development, Maurizio Reggiani said
Moreover, because all of the engine’s torque would be hard on most dual-clutch gearboxes, the Urus will use a torque converter transmission, as Reggiani confirmed:
“We’ll be using a torque converter because the torque necessary will be so high that no double clutch can manage this level of torque. We want to be the best in terms of torque and power.”
According to Lamborghini, it will be the fastest SUV on the planet, and unlike its more luxurious sibling, the Bentayga, the Urus will exclusively utilize a unique twin-turbocharged, 4.0-litre V8. Nothing more, nothing less.
