Daimler Road Map Reveals Mercedes-Benz GLA Coupe, E-Class All Terrain And More AMG GTs
Hidden inside Daimler's half-year sales results is a small image that depicts what the Germans have in store for 2017.
Joining the GLC Coupe and GLE Coupe, the new GLA Coupe will be one of the first additions to the range. It will probably carry an identical front end as the regular GLA, the same interior layout and probably most (if not all) of the engine lineup, waiting patiently for BMW to make a similar move with a possible X2.
The E-Class family is also bound to expand beyond the current Sedan and Estate, with a two-door Coupe and the hairy-chested All Terrain, which will rival the likes of the Audi A6 Allroad thanks to its increased ride height, plastic body claddings and adjustable air suspension. We also have the E-Class Convertible on this list, which is currently undergoing testing, so chances are it will go official the year after, when the CLS is also expected to turn the page.
Mercedes-AMG's product offensive will continue with what seem to be three new AMG GTs, dubbed the GT R Coupe, GT C Coupe and GT C Roadster - though we don't know exactly what the former is, especially since the 3-pointed star already pulled the covers off the AMG GT R at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is also a Coupe. The GT C Coupe is another mystery set to be solved next year, but it's possible we could be looking into a facelifted version. Other than that, the GT C Roadster's name speaks for itself.
Those looking to put the company's first ever workhorse to the test will have to wait until next year, as the pickup truck, presumably named GLT, is still a long way from being ready, despite benefiting from the underpinnings of the Nissan NP300 Navara.
While it kept getting caught in the open since late 2015, the facelifted Mercedes-Benz S-Class will not show its reworked face until 2017, despite initial reports suggesting it could show up this fall at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
Last but not least, the Smart brand is planning its own offensive, with zero-emission variants of the ForTwo and ForFour. The two-seater coupe will be the first one to get an electric powertrain this year, followed by the ForTwo Cabrio EV and ForFour EV in 2017.
