Renault Unveils Restyled Clio RS 200 EDC & RS 220 Trophy, Plus GT-Line Look Pack
With Renault's fourth-generation Clio becoming a little bit more modern thanks to its facelift, it was about time the French automaker showed off the more capable RS 200 & RS 220 Trophy versions.
The new Clio RS is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol unit, good for either 200 PS (197 HP) or 220 PS (117 HP) if you go for the Trophy model. The six-speed EDC dual-clutch automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters is also included. Currently, the Clio RS is the only car in its class to offer three different types of chassis. They range from the sport chassis to the Cup chassis and finally the Trophy chassis, lowered by 20 mm (0.8 in) at the front and 10 mm (0.4 in) at the rear.
The Trophy model can be specified with an exclusive exhaust system reminiscent of the one from the Clio RS 16 concept car, developed together with industry specialist Akrapovic. In terms of performance, the 220 PS flagship Clio is capable of sprinting to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.6 seconds, needing just 14.5 seconds to cover 400 meters (1/4 mile) from a standing start. Its top speed is 235 km/h (146 mph).
The front end of the restyled Clio RS comes with a new front bumper and multi-faceted LED lighting in the form of a chequered flag called 'RS Vision' - also first seen on the RS 16 concept. The system coordinates the fog lights, cornering lights, side lights as well as dipped and main beams in order to improve night-time visibility. Aesthetically, the new Clio RS also boasts 18" wheels and specific sills while the rear houses a functional diffuser, spoiler and twin exhaust pipes.
At the same time, Renault is also introducing a new GT Line look pack, allowing customers to give their new Clio a sporty look - enhanced by the Dark metal air scoops in the front bumper, lateral sills, uniquely designed 16" or 17" wheels as well as an exclusive exhaust with a chrome tail pipe and Dark Metal rear bumper (matching the scoops up front).
Both the new Clio as well as the new Clio RS will be available to order in the UK starting this September, with deliveries set this autumn.
