Facelifted Mercedes C-Class Coupe And Convertible Revealed With New Tech And More Power

Mercedes has unveiled the 2019 C-Class Coupe and Convertible ahead of their debut at the New York Auto Show.

Following in the footsteps of the facelifted sedan and wagon, the models have been equipped with new bumpers, a revised grille and updated LED High Performance headlights. The models also have restyled LED taillights and a newly available Night Package on the convertible.

The interior sees a host of minor revisions including the addition of a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls. Designers also installed a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a turbine-style start/stop button and an updated touchpad controller with haptic feedback.

The changes don’t stop there as the ambient lighting system now offers 64 colors and the updated LINGUATRONIC voice control system can adjust additional settings such as the heated seats. Other changes include revised upholstery and new trims such as open-pore brown walnut and open-pore anthracite oak.

In Europe, there will be new C 200 and C 200 4MATIC variants with a 1.5-liter engine that produces 184 PS (135 kW) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque. The models also have a 48-volt EQ Boost system which can contribute an additional 14 PS (10 kW) of power when accelerating. Mercedes says this extra boost “bridges the brief moment until the turbocharger has built up its full charge pressure.”

The powertrain enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of up to 239 km/h (148 mph). More importantly, the model consumes as little as 6.1 L/100km (38.5 mpg US / 46.3 mpg UK) and has CO2 emissions as low as 140 g/km.

On the diesel side, there’s a new C 220 d which has a 2.0-liter (1951cc) engine producing 194 PS (143 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque – an increase of 24 PS (18 kW) over its predecessor. Thanks to the extra power, the model can run from (0-62 mph) in 7.0 seconds and top out at 240 km/h (149 mph) in coupe form.

Drivers looking for more performance can opt for the updated C43. The models have a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine which develops 390 PS (287 kW) and 520 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque – an increase of 23 PS (17 kW). This enables the C43 Coupe to rocket from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.7 seconds and max out at 250 km/h (155 mph).

In the United States, the C300 receives a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 255 hp (190 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque – an increase of 14 hp (10 kW). It enables the coupe to run from 0-60 mph in approximately 5.9 seconds before hitting an electronically-limited top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).

Likewise, the C43 will be rated at 385 hp (287 kW) and 384 lb-ft (520 Nm) of torque – an increase of 23 hp (17 kW). This allows the C43 Coupe to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds before topping out at just 130 mph (209 km/h).

The facelifted models will go on sale in Germany this July while a U.S. launch is scheduled for late this year.
