Audi Confirms Four-Door e-Tron GT For 2020 As Their Flagship EV Model

Audi confirmed its plan to launch a dynamic four-door electric model in 2020, dubbed the e-Tron GT.

The German company made the announcement at its annual press conference, where it also said that the new e-Tron GT will spearhead a line-up of more than 20 electrified models by 2025.

“We interpret sportiness very progressively with our fully electric e-tron GT, and this is how we will take our high-performance brand Audi Sport into the future,” said Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi.

Audi will start building the e-Tron GT at the Böllinger Höfe site near Neckarsulm in early 2020.

The German carmaker also repeated that they’re going to launch their first-ever battery electric model later this year, which is none other than the e-Tron SUV. Previewed at the Geneva Motor Show, the new electric SUV will be compatible with 150kW fast chargers, “making it ready for long-distance use again in less than half an hour”.

The new Audi e-Tron SUV will be built at the converted Brussels plant, where the company will also assemble its battery pack. Since the e-Tron SUV will be produced there, Audi will move production of the next-generation A1 to Seat’s Martorell plant. The Audi Q3 currently produced there will be assembled in Hungary, once the new model arrives.

The upcoming Audi e-Tron GT is expected to rival models like the Tesla Model S. Let’s not forget that by 2020 Porsche will also have the Mission E in the market, so it will be interesting to see how the two companies will tackle the positioning of their new electric models.
