Koenigsegg To Reveal Even More Hardcore Hypercar At Geneva 2019

The Geneva Motor Show has just wrapped up its press days, but already some are starting to look to next season.

That includes Koenigsegg, which came to the show this year with two Regeras and a restored CCX – models we’ve already seen, but never seem to grow tired of seeing again.

Next year, though, Christian von Koenigsegg and company will have something new to showcase. And we already have early indications that it’ll be even more extreme.

“We have a replacement car coming after the Agera RS,” Koenigsegg told Top Gear. “The Regera is, let’s say, the best car we can build for ‘normal road use’. It’s a kind of GT car. The replacement for the Agera, Agera RS and One:1 is not a hyper-GT. It’s more race-like. It’s even more capable than the Agera RS.”

Sounds promising, though we’re not sure at this point whether the new car will be another version of the Agera, or an altogether new model. Both are expected to be in the pipeline.

Either way, we can expect to find the same essential parameters. You can bet it’ll be built around the same carbon chassis, with that 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 mounted in the middle, with a sequential gearbox, dihedral doors, and a removable roof panel.

It promises to be even more hardcore than any version that’s come before, and pack even more power. As it is, that engine has been tuned to produce 1,341 horsepower in the Agera RS and One:1, delivering a 0-62 time of under three seconds and a top speed approaching 280 mph.

“We refining it, making it a little bit lighter, a little bit stronger,” said Koenigsegg. “This year we are showcasing [the new car] to our customers in virtual reality,” and will reveal it to the public in Geneva next year. That means waiting another year to see what the next one will do, but we’re already looking forward.
