2019 Hyundai Tucson Gets A Makeover And Drops Turbo In Favor Of More Powerful 2.4L
The facelifted 2019 Hyundai Tucson has just premiered at the New York Auto Show, bringing with it changes inside and out.
The most important changes take place under the skin with a revised powertrain lineup. Two engines will be offered for the 2019 model, the first of which is a 2.0-liter direct-injected four-cylinder delivering an estimated 164 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque.
The range-topper takes the form of a 2.4-liter direct-injected four-cylinder offering up an estimated 181 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. This 2.4-liter replaces the 175 hp, 196 lb-ft,1.6-liter turbocharged four of the outgoing model. Both engines for 2019 are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
As is expected of most new vehicles nowadays, the 2019 Tucson can be optioned with a plethora of safety features, including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, High Beam Assist, Rain-sensing wipers, Surround View Monitor, Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and Driver attention warning.
As standard, the crossover gets Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Keeping Assist.
Inside, the Tucson comes complete with a 7-inch infotainment system offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Additionally, Blue Link Connected Car System with three years of complimentary Blue Link services is offered for select trim levels.
Speaking of trim levels, the Tucson will be sold in Value, SE, SEL, Sport, and Limited guises. Differences between the trims include bespoke 18-inch wheels for the SEL while all others are offered with 17- and 19-inch wheels. Elsewhere, the Limited receives chrome trim and the 2.0-liter engine is found exclusively in the Value and SE trims, leaving the SEL, Sport, and Limited trim models with the 2.4-liter.
In terms of design, there is nothing significantly different over the current model. Among the most obvious changes are a revised grille, headlights, taillights, tweaked front and rear fascias, and the aforementioned 17-, 18-, and 19-inch wheels.
The 2019 Hyundai Tucson will arrive in dealerships throughout the United States this fall.
