Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Debuts With 670 HP

Porsche has introduced the new Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid and Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe.

Set to arrive in the United States early next year, the models have a plug-in hybrid powertrain that features a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 541 hp (403 kW / 548 PS). It’s backed up by an electric motor that develops an additional 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS). This enables the crossovers to have a combined output of 670 hp (550 kW / 679 PS) and 663 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque.

The electric motor is powered by a 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery and is sandwiched between the V8 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup enables the two motors to work together or independently. When the electric motor is doing all the work, the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid can travel up to 24.8 miles (40 km) on electricity alone.

In terms of performance, the crossovers can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 183 mph (295 km/h).

On the styling front, the models are distinguished by Acid Green accents and 21-inch AeroDesign wheels. They also have body colored wheel arch extensions.

For the US market, the Cayennes will come nicely equipped with the Sport Chrono Package and ceramic composite brakes. Other highlights include 18-way power adjustable adaptive sport seats, Porsche torque vectoring plus and Porsche dynamic chassis control.

An assortment of options will be available including a Lightweight Sport Package. It includes the Sport Design Package, a carbon fiber roof, carbon fiber exterior accents and 22-inch GT Design wheels. Inside, there’s an Alcantara-wrapped sport steering wheel, carbon fiber trim and two-tone Houndstooth seat centers. Two versions of the package will be available and they save up to 48 lbs (22 kg) of weight.

Unfortunately, the crossovers don’t come cheap as the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid will be priced from $161,900 in the United States. The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe will retail for $2,500 more.

Besides introducing the two high-performance models, Porsche also announced the Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe. It features a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine and an electric motor that work together to produce a combined output of 455 hp (339 kW / 461 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque.

This enables the crossover to run from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 157 mph (253 km/h). More importantly, the model has an electric-only range of up to 26.7 miles (43 km).

The 2020 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe will be priced from $86,400 and it comes equipped with eight-way power front sport seats, a panoramic glass roof and 20-inch wheels.

Note: Prices exclude a $1,350 processing, delivery and handling fee
