Toyota FT-4X Concept Coming To NY Show, May Preview New FJ Cruiser


Toyota will debut a new concept vehicle named the FT-4X at the 2017 New York Auto Show, on April 12.

Even though we first heard about the FT-4X back in October last year when Toyota trademarked the name in the States, the study is shrouded in mystery, and the official teaser image isn’t helping either.

However, if we were to look at a previous report, the trademark filling for the FT-4X name could mean that we're looking at a possible successor to the funky FJ Cruiser that ended production last year.

An FJ Cruiser replacement could challenge the likes of the next generation Jeep Wrangler and the upcoming Ford Bronco, with a rugged design and increased ground clearance.

And if you don't believe that the FT-4X has a good chance of hitting the assembly lines, then we'll remind you that Toyota has a history of producing concept cars wearing the FT (Future Toyota) designation. Moreover, in this case, the '4X' could stand for four-wheel drive, backing up the fact that we could be looking at a potent off-roader.

Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet Is A Crossover For Droptop Lovers

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Rather than simply removing the roof of the standard T-Roc, Volkswagen has drastically altered the vehicle’s structure and body. In fact, its wheelbase is 37 mm longer than the standard T-Roc while its overall length is up by 34 mm. In addition, the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet features structural strengthening in the underbody, side panels, cross members, doors, and windscreen frame to make up for the lack of a roof. The folding fabric roof developed by Volkswagen retracts in just nine seconds at speeds of up to 19 mph (30.5 km/h) and is similar in operation to the roof of the outgoing Golf Cabriolet. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding. Among its features, you'll notice the lightweight carbon fiber racing stripes, A-Pillars and side mirrors, as well as the unique race-inspired Perspex acrylic engine hatch with integrated venting.
