All-New Peugeot 2008 Available In Petrol, Diesel, And EV Forms
Shortly after images of the all-new Peugeot 2008 leaked online, the new SUV has been officially presented by the French car manufacturer. As those leaked images indicated, the vehicle looks very much like a smaller version of the 3008 and Peugeot will hope to emulate the success of that model with the smaller 2008.
Much like the new 208, the new Peugeot 2008 will be offered with a selection of petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains. In terms of petrol units, customers will be able to opt between three different 1.2-liter PureTech three-cylinder powertrains pumping out 99 hp, 128 hp, and 153 hp respectively. A 1.5-liter BlueHDI diesel version with 99 hp is also on offer with a manual transmission.
Perhaps of even more importance than the petrol and diesel models is the e-2008, the all-electric version. Powering this model is a 50 kWh battery pack and an electric motor with 136 hp. This powertrain supports 100 kW rapid charging which means its battery can be topped up to 80 per cent capacity in just 30 minutes. The Peugeot e-2008 has an WLTP range of 193 miles and because the battery pack is positioned under the floor, the vehicle has just as much trunk and interior space as its ICE siblings.
All Peugeot 2008 models come adorned with a raft of impressive technologies and safety features. For example, there is the Drive Assist system which includes lane positioning assist, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go functionality. The 2008 is also equipped with Full Park Assist, Automotive Emergency Brake Assist, Active lane (or verge) keeping assist, Driver Attention Monitoring, Peugeot Smartbeam Assistance, Speed limit recognition and recommendation, Extended traffic sign recognition, Active Blind Spot Monitoring, and an electric parking brake. The SUV is also equipped with a 10-speaker Focal audio system and Peugeot’s 3D i-Cockpit complete with a tiny steering wheel and a head-up display.
As the new 2008 is based around the company’s Common Modular Platform, it is 14 cm longer than its predecessor while being 1.7 meters wide and 1.54 meters high. All models feature 360 liters of trunk capacity as standard.
“The all-new 2008 SUV is the second vehicle introduced into the PEUGEOT range where the customer can choose from a conventional petrol or diesel engine, or a 100% electric variant without compromising on technology, looks or driving sensations,” managing director of Peugeot UK David Peel said. “We strongly believe in choosing your PEUGEOT and then choosing your powertrain. The all-new 2008 SUV is also another step forward in our commitment of having an electrified version, across our entire Peugeot range, by 2023.”
The new Peugeot 2008 will launch next year with prices to be announced at a later date.
