2022 Fisker Ocean Has Promising Debut At CES, Is Still Two Years Away

Fisker’s long-awaited Ocean electric luxury SUV has finally made its world debut at CES 2020, but that doesn’t mean we’ll get to see it on our roads anytime soon.

Following a business model pioneered by Tesla, Fisker is first showing people the vehicle in the hope of getting enough deposits and investments to start production. Initially, Fisker announced an all-inclusive lease model, but has now added a full purchase option too.

In the United States, customers need to pay a $250 reservation fee for either the full purchase option or the flexible lease program. For those who want to take full ownership of the vehicle, prices will start at $37,499 – or $29,999 after the available $7,500 U.S. federal tax credit is applied. That’s a very competitive price but the flexible lease model is even more enticing.

Drivers can get behind the wheel of the Fisker Ocean from $379 a month, with $2,999 down before delivery in 2022 (which includes both initiation and activation fees). For credit approved customers, Fisker will also offer a “$0 drive off” option through a fully financed $2,999 down payment.

Interestingly, drivers can return the vehicle in one month, eight months, 22 months or several years. There are no long-term contracts imposed and the included mileage is 30,000 miles (48,280 km) per year.

Does this sound too good to be true? Henrik Fisker appears very optimistic about the future and says the company has secured “a strategic global and localized supply chain which includes critical components such as batteries.” As a result, Fisker will have a global manufacturing capacity in the United States, Europe and China, with projected production of more than 1 million vehicles between 2022 and 2027.

According to the California-based company, the Ocean’s fully-engineered platform is production ready and will underpin two additional models. Thanks to an 80 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the standard driving range is estimated to vary between 250 and 300 miles (402-483 km). A fast charge option will yield 200 miles (322 km) of range in 30 minutes.

Billed as the world’s most sustainable vehicle, the Fisker Ocean offers features such as a full-length solar roof generating 1,000 miles (1,609 km) of range per year, fully-recycled carpeting made from regenerated nylon, a vegan interior with eco-suede textures and patterns derived from polyester fibers, and more.

The Fisker Ocean is scheduled to enter production at the end of 2021, with the first high-volume deliveries expected in 2022.
