Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition 1 Arrives With Sports Sedan Looks, Supercar Performance

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe was one of the hottest premieres in Geneva. Since its debut, we actually haven’t heard that much about it, until now that is, with the introduction of the Edition 1.

Powering it is the ubiquitous twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, in its most powerful form. It churns out 639PS (630hp / 470kW) and 900Nm (664lb-ft) of torque, channeled to the 4Matic AWD system through a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Mercedes-AMG claims a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) sprint of just 3.2 seconds (0-60mph/96km/h in 3.1sec), and a top speed of 315km/h (196mph). If we were to compare it with, say, the Ferrari 488 GTB, then it’s 0.1sec slower to 100km/h (62mph), and just 15km/h (9mph) shy of its top speed.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition 1 is not just about performance, because it welcomes a bunch of other upgrades, too. These include the Designo Graphite Grey Magno exterior finish, Graphite Grey sports stripes on the hood, roof, decklid and side sill panels, 21-inch cross-spoke rims and AMG Aerodynamics Package that lowers its drag coefficient and increases downforce.

Moving on inside means checking out the special AMG Multicontour Performance Seats with Memory Package, Exclusive Nappa Leather in Magma Grey/Black upholstery with yellow contrasting topstitching, Dinamica microfiber look for the steering wheel and matte carbon fiber trim. Elsewhere, the special edition AMG GT 4 brings yellow seatbelts, Air-Balance Package, illuminated AMG door sills, specific floor mats and more Nappa leather in Magma Grey-finished parts.

Mercedes-AMG will premiere the new GT 63 S Edition 1 at the ADAC Zurich Race at the Nurburgring, this weekend. Subsequently, it will go on sale in Germany, and other European markets, this summer, with deliveries commencing in September.

On the other side of the Atlantic, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will arrive in early 2019 in GT 63 and 63 S flavors, whereas the GT 53 will become available starting next summer.
