Maserati Road Map Shows Alfieri EV Replacing GranTurismo Flagship


FCA is looking to put past disappointments behind them as far as its Maserati brand is concerned, focusing on a future where every new model will stay true to the brand’s exclusive image.

The Italian automaker will also be ditching the GranTurismo nameplate in favor of the Alfieri, a two door luxury Coupe/Cabriolet boasting a plug-in hybrid powertrain with E-AWD. Simply told, the Alfieri will be the Maserati of EV Coupes.

According to Maserati, the Alfieri will be capable of speeds north of 300 km/h (186 mph), and thanks to its active aerodynamics, torque vectoring and a three motor E-AWD system, it will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around 2 seconds flat. Other features include the state-of-the-art 800V battery, lightweight construction, limited space intrusion, quick charge times and a long range – something that will apply to all battery-electric Maserati models in the near future, such as an all-new Quattroporte and Levante.

In total, there will be eight plug-in hybrid vehicles and four battery-electric vehicles, with Level 3 autonomous functions also in the mix.

Unlike the all-new Levante and Quattroporte models, the Ghibli will be further updated and not completely redesigned. This means it won’t be joining its siblings in receiving fully electrified powertrains, part of the ‘Maserati Blue’ strategy.

Last but not least, a brand new D-Segment SUV will also be unveiled, larger than the Levante. It’s said to have an ideal 50:50 weight balance, dynamic Q4 AWD system, a “superior ride and handling” and it will of course be available as a plug-in hybrid.

Overall, future Maserati products will take aim at competitors such as Porsche and Tesla, combining dynamic luxury with state of the art battery-electric technology.

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different.
