BMW 2002 Hommage Concept Reshapes A Legend

Paying tribute to one of their most iconic cars, the classic BMW 2002, the Germans have shown the retro-futuristic looking Hommage 2002 Concept at Lake Como.

Based on the M2, it takes inspiration from the 1973 model, reinterpreting it with a modern twist with its flared fenders, similarly shaped headlights and a new grille.

Mirroring the classic look of the 2002 are the square-shaped taillight lenses and ducktail spoiler as well, while the final touch is given by the 20-inch alloy wheels, in a bi-color design and Y-multi-spoke pattern.

"BMW’s fresh interpretation of the BMW 2002 adopts the form of a compact sports coupe in the classical tradition of BMW Hommage cars. But more than that, the BMW 2002 Hommage represents a clear statement of how pure driving pleasure is defined in 2016", the manufacturer explains.

Powertrain details are not available, thus we presume the 370 PS (365 HP) and 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) of torque 3.0-liter twin turbo inline-six from the standard M2 has been maintained. The study can be seen in the flesh this weekend, at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, in Italy, alongside a whole batch of other concept cars made by BMW over the years.
