TVR's Upcoming Sports Car Teased, Could Wear The Griffith Moniker
TVR is paving the ground for the launch of a new sports car, which could mark the return of the Griffith name.
Dubbed "TVR The Rebirth", the latest teaser video provides a glimpse into the upcoming British sports car, flanked by the original Tuscan and Tuscan Speed Six. Gordon Murray's iStream manufacturing technique will be used, as engineers are targeting a curb weight of approximately 1,150 kg (2,535 lbs).
Power will come from a V8 engine, tuned by Cosworth, which should be good for more than 400 HP, allowing the sports car to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in less than 4 seconds. It is estimated that in the UK, prices will start from around £65,000 ($94,200), but a launch edition, which is in the pipeline, will be significantly more expensive, sitting in the "sub-£100,000" range ($145,000).
Almost 400 deposits are said to have been taken for TVR's upcoming sports car, which will be produced in the Ebbw Vale Enterprise Zone, in South Wales, where construction started last month. The first examples are due to arrive late next year.
TVR's modern vehicle family is believed to expand furthermore with the introduction of yet another model, built from the ground up as a convertible, according to the brand's chief, Les Edgar, quoted by Autocar.
The reborn automaker is attending the 2016 London Motor Show, with a full-size clay model hiding underneath a cover, joined by a 1960s Griffith 400.
