Formula E Lets Us Glimpse At Its Second-Generation Electric Racer


The FIA Formula E Championship has now officially kicked off its fourth season. And all the while, it’s used the same essential chassis first revealed back in 2013. But that’s about to come to an end as the electric racing series is preparing to unveil a completely new second-generation car.

The all-new Formula E racer is set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March. But before it does, the organizers have released a trio of teaser images to keep fans of the series on their proverbial toes.


Two of those teaser images give us glimpses at the front- and rear-end aerodynamic elements that look far more aggressive and angular than the current ones… especially that sinister-looking rear diffuser. Looks aside, they’ve surely been designed in the wind-tunnel to improve the spectacle and action, whether that means more downforce or less.

More revealing, though, is the inclusion of an F1-style “halo” cockpit protection device that’s quickly becoming the standard across a growing array of FIA-sanctioned open-cockpit racing series. For the new Formula E racer, it’s apparently going to include embedded LED lights – though for what purpose, we don’t know. Maybe they’ll be used to indicate the lead car, or which driver has the benefit of the “fan boost.”


Whatever the purpose, and whatever else it has in store, we may not have to wait until Geneva to see the new car revealed. Watch this space, race fans.

Mercedes finally pulled the wraps off the  AMG GT’s Roadster version  which will come in two flavors: the basic 469hp model and the range-topping 547hp GT C model. Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet Is A Crossover For Droptop Lovers

Droptop crossovers have always been rather odd and the T-Roc Cabriolet is no different. It will be the only convertible Volkswagen on sale for the foreseeable future and will celebrate its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Rather than simply removing the roof of the standard T-Roc, Volkswagen has drastically altered the vehicle’s structure and body. In fact, its wheelbase is 37 mm longer than the standard T-Roc while its overall length is up by 34 mm. In addition, the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet features structural strengthening in the underbody, side panels, cross members, doors, and windscreen frame to make up for the lack of a roof. The folding fabric roof developed by Volkswagen retracts in just nine seconds at speeds of up to 19 mph (30.5 km/h) and is similar in operation to the roof of the outgoing Golf Cabriolet. Ford's new GT Competition Series was built with weight-saving in mind, but also with an improved center of gravity for better road-holding. Among its features, you'll notice the lightweight carbon fiber racing stripes, A-Pillars and side mirrors, as well as the unique race-inspired Perspex acrylic engine hatch with integrated venting.
