First Official Look At Geely’s Coupe SUV Codenamed FY11

Geely has released official uncensored photos of its first coupe SUV, codenamed FY11.

There was no point in trying to keep the car hidden following last week’s leaked photos that showed the car in full so Geely dropped the curtain on the coupe SUV. The photos bring no surprises compared to what we saw last week, however. The FY11 still looks like a generic coupe SUV heavily inspired by the BMW X4 but dismissing it as unattractive would be rather unfair.

It’s not original, that’s for sure, but very few new cars are like that nowadays. The FY11 will be Geely’s third vehicle to launch this year, in addition to the all-electric sedan teased earlier this month and an all-new MPV.

The coupe SUV will also be Geely’s first model based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) that was jointly developed with Volvo Cars in Sweden. According to the Chinese carmaker, the use of this platform has allowed the creation of a vehicle with “true sporting credentials, from powertrain to design.”

For example, the flexibility and scalability of CMA allowed the lowering of the front and rear suspension systems “for better handling and aesthetic appeal.” At the heart of the Geely FY11 will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 175 kW (238 PS/235 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The FY11 will come with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

Geely Auto will announce further details on the interior and equipment of its first coupe SUV in the near future.
