Lexus LC Convertible Concept Revealed

Lexus has uncovered the LC Convertible Concept ahead of its world premiere that’s scheduled for the 2019 Detroit Auto Show on Monday.

Claimed to have come to life as their design team was “exploring the brand’s evolution”, it’s described as “an LC in its most breathtaking form” and serves as a preview for the production model.

“This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC Coupe and reimagines it as a future convertible”, said Chief Designer Tadao Mori. “It blends all the best aspects of the original Coupe with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible.”

At 4,770 mm (187.8 in) long, 1,920 mm (75.6 in) wide and 1,340 mm (52.8 in) tall, the LC Convertible is 10 mm (0.4 in) longer and sits 5 mm (0.2 in) lower than its fixed roof sibling. The wheelbase length has remained the same as the Coupe, at 2,870 mm (113 in).

Lexus chose to keep the design of the car identical to the LC Coupe – bar the folding top, of course. However, there are a few special touches, such as the black exterior trim and new 22-inch rims, as well as white leather and yellow contrast stitching inside.

For the LC Convertible, Lexus eschewed a folding hard top in favor of a much lighter soft one, which is stowed in a special compartment behind the (tiny) rear seats, which may or may not have an impact on the boot capacity. But to find out more about the open-top LC we’ll have to wait three days, when the car will be officially launched at the 2019 NAIAS.
