Hyundai Exec Confirms Genesis Electric Vehicle
Seven months after it broke cover as a standalone brand, Genesis has said it plans to expand their operations to the electric vehicle segment, with a zero-emission model.
Confirmed by the South Korean manufacturer's Senior VP, Manfred Fitzgerald, who recently joined Hyundai from his former position as a Lamborghini Director, the EV is part of the marque's future.
"We will definitely go as Genesis brand down the road of alternative propulsions and it is very, very obvious that EV is definitely on the map", Fitzgerald said, cited by Reuters. "I think full electric cars will be the future in the auto industry."
Genesis may have yet to provide further details on the upcoming EV, but vehicle development will continue beyond it and fresh data points towards the introduction of a compact saloon, which will go BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class hunting.
It will be joined by a sport coupe and two luxury SUVs, while plug-in hybrid models are also rumored to be part of the package, along with N high-performance versions that will be positioned against Mercedes' AMG and BMW's M. Genesis could, however, be aiming even higher, with a supercar, which was hinted a few months ago, so Hyundai's future looks promising, to say the least.
