Mercedes-Benz Teases New 2017 E-Class Estate Ahead Of June 6 Reveal
The clock is ticking for Mercedes’ new-generation E-Class Wagon (or Estate or T-Model) that will be unveiled online on Monday, June 6.
Instead of an endless crop of (…cropped) teasers, Benz unloaded a telling video that shows the interior in full together with a few images of the car’s rear quarters, which is the main differentiator from the new E-Class sedan.
Spy pictures and sources suggest that the new executive wagon might sacrifice a smidge of the 695-liter luggage area of its predecessor in the name of a more stylish rear end, but it should still remain the cargo capacity king in the segment that includes Audi’s A6 Avant, BMW’s 5-Series Touring, and Volvo’s new V90.
The rest of the car will be identical to the new E-Class saloon sharing the same line of four-cylinder and V6 powertrains at launch, and about a year later, the monstrous twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with up to 612PS (604hp) and 850Nm (627 lb-ft) in the E63 AMG S.
The Estate will be the second out of a total of four separate E-Class-badged body styles to be launched after the sedan, with a coupe and a soft-top convertible to follow within the next 12 months.
The station wagon model will also form the base for a crossover-flavored variant, rumored to be named All Terrain, that will compete against Audi’s A6 Allroad and Volvo’s forthcoming V90 Cross Country that we spied earlier this week. Besides the increased ride height and modified air suspension on all four corners, the E-Class All Terrain will get Merc’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system paired to a standard 9-speed automatic transmission, and an updated appearance with body cladding, roof bars, different front grille and bumper designs, and appropriate wheels.
