Pagani Huayra BC sheds pounds to improve an already glorious hypercar

Pagani's new Huayra BC, which debuts at the Geneva Motor Show, takes an already excellent hypercar and puts it on a serious diet to create an even more hardcore coupe. The BC name doesn't reference that this machine is capable of transporting its driver back in time, but instead it refers to Benny Caiola who was the company's first customer.

The BC retains the Huayra's Mercedes-AMG-sourced 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12, but output increases to over 750 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. The company says the final figures should be ready "soon," and the specs at the bottom of the announcement also show the equivalent of 789 hp, which hints the actual number may be in that range. Pagani doesn't mention performance specs yet, which is probably because the engine output isn't final.

Pagani also sheds significant weight off the original coupe. The BC weighs 2,685 pounds versus about 2,976 pounds for a standard Huayra, depending on specification. Some of the biggest cuts come from the new seven-speed automated manual transmission and electronic active differential that are 40 percent lighter than the previous gearbox. Suspension components from an aeronautic aluminum alloy called HiForg also weigh 25 percent less than before. Pirelli even created custom P Zero Corsa tires with increased grip but three percent less weight.

The BC obviously wears a new front splitter, massive rear wing, and huge diffuser, but the styling differences go much deeper compared to the original Huayra. According to Pagani, the roof is the only shared body panel between the two vehicles. The bevy of tweaks create a hypercar that sticks like glue on a circuit but is still road legal. In addition to the P Zero Corsas, Pirelli also has P Zero Trofeo R track tires that allow for 2G of lateral acceleration, the automaker claims.

Pagaini won't yet say how many BCs it will make or how much they will cost. However, the company already sold out of the original Huayra. We wouldn't be surprised if the company didn't already have several pending orders for the new one.
