Subaru Reveals BRZ Ts And WRX STI Type RA Limited Editions

Subaru USA has finally released details about the latest editions of the BRZ and the WRX STI.

Subaru will offer just 500 units of each model, with both of them expected to reach Subaru dealerships in early 2018.

The new Subaru WRX STI Type RA offers a purer driving experience through the classic recipe of shedding weight and upgrading the chassis and the engine.

The new limited version of the WRX STI comes with a carbon-fiber roof panel, a carbon-fiber wing and a set of lightweight BBS 19-inch forged alloys. Subaru has also removed the spare tire.

The chassis has been upgraded with inverted front struts and Bilstein dampers all around, with the VDC also tuned to the needs of the new Type RA. A set of six-piston Brembo brakes with cross-drilled rotors makes sure that stopping power will always be there.

Subaru has updated the turbocharged 2.5-litre flat-four engine to an estimated 310hp, thanks to the use of a new cold air intake, high-flow performance exhaust, retuned ECU and stronger pistons. The six-speed manual gearbox features a revised 3rd gear ratio along with a short-throw shifter.

The new Subaru BRZ tS on the other hand comes with an updated chassis and a more aggressive look, with the flat-four naturally aspirated engine remaining unchanged.

Subaru has added a set of STI-tuned Sachs dampers and coil springs, as well as V-braces in the engine compartment. The chassis and front sub-frame are also upgraded with new draw stiffeners for better and more direct steering feel. A set of 18-inch lightweight STI wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires are there to further improve the grip levels and turn-in of the BRZ.

The bodywork features a full STI costume, including front, rear and side underspoilers which help in controlling the airflow but the real star of the show is that big rear wing made out of carbon fiber.

Both the 2018 WRX STI Type RA and the BRZ tS will be available WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Crystal White Pearl, with Subaru to release the exact specifications and pricing later this year.
