2021 Genesis G80: First Official Look At New Model
Set to be introduced later this month, the 2021 G80 adopts an “Athletic Elegance” design that looks simply phenomenal.
Like the GV80, the model features a large crest grille which is flanked by Genesis’ trademark “quadlamps.” Of course, the real highlights are further back as the G80 has a long flowing hood, muscular bodywork and 20-inch alloy wheels.
In particular, the car has a long sweeping “parabolic line” that starts at the front fender and continues gracefully to the rear. Genesis says this stylish accent is meant to evoke the “elegance of classic cars of the past.”
The dynamic styling is visible elsewhere as designers gave the car a coupe-like roofline. The design is far sportier than the current model and it recalls the Audi A7 Sportback.
The rear end is also gorgeous as Genesis gave the G80 a trunk with a “horseshoe shaped negative surface.” It’s joined by chrome trim and a trunk release button which mimics the shape of the Genesis logo. Elsewhere, there are quad taillights and crest-shaped exhaust tips.
As expected, the cabin follows in the footsteps of the GV80. Genesis was tight-lipped on details, but the luxury sedan features a distinctive two-tone steering wheel that resides in front of a digital instrument cluster.
To the right, there’s a 14.5-inch widescreen infotainment system and slender air vents that appear to span the width of the interior. Further below, there’s a wide swath of wood trim and high-tech controls with digital displays. Other highlights include a rotary shifter, metallic accents and premium leather seats with distinctive stitching.
Genesis is keeping specifications under wraps, but confirmed the G80 rides on all-new platform and features new powertrains as well as high-tech systems. While the company is playing coy, many components should carryover from the GV80.
This means we can expect a couple of petrol engines including a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 developing more than 370 hp (276 kW / 375 PS). In certain markets, there could also be a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel producing 274 hp (204 kW / 278 PS) and 434 lb-ft (589 Nm) of torque.
