2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S: The Original Supercar Killer Is Back With 650 PS And A 205 MPH Top Speed
Porsche has officially unveiled the new 911 Turbo S in both Coupe and Convertible forms, following a long series of leaks and very revealing spy shots that basically spilled the beans long before today.
As expected, the new Porsche 911 Turbo S distinguishes itself from lesser models with slightly more aggressive front bumper, the characteristic side air intakes and that lovely rear end with a pair of either oval-shaped or quad exhaust tips and that extendable rear spoiler.
That rear wing in coordination with the front extendable spoiler give the new 911 Turbo S 100 kg (220 lbs) of downforce at 205 mph (330 km/h).
The body of the new 992-based 911 Turbo S is 1.8 inches (45 mm) wider on the front wings and 0.8 inches (20mm) wider at the rear than the previous model. Weight is also up by 50 kg (110 lbs) but that easily corrected by the added firepower.
Power for the new 911 Turbo S comes from a new twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six engine, an evolution of the Carrera’s 3.0-liter unit, paired to an eight-speed dual-cluch automatic transmission, producing 641 HP (650 PS), 69 HP (70 PS) more than the previous model, and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque.
The 0-62 mph (100 km/h) procedure is conservatively rated(!) at 2.7 seconds, with 0-120 mph (193 km/h) coming in 8.9 seconds, a full second faster than its predecessor. Top speed is set at 205 mph (330 km/h). The all-wheel drive system features limited-slip differentials at the center and rear while the standard active suspension is combined with rear-wheel steering as standard.
For the first time in a 911 Turbo S the wheel size is mixed, measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear, shod in 255/35 and 315/30 rubber respectively. The center-lock alloys are also a new design.
Porsche has upgraded the interior for the new 911 Turbo S with things like a special stitching pattern that pays homage to the original 930 Turbo, a GT sports steering wheel, model-specific graphics on the displays and more.
The new Porsche 911 Turbo S also comes with a pretty long list of options, including a sports chassis that lowers the ride height by 10 mm and a new sports exhaust.
Prices for the 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S start from $203,500 for the Coupe and from $216,300 for the Cabriolet in the US, with first deliveries expected to take place in late 2020. In the UK customers will pay £155,970 for the Coupe and £165,127 for the Cabriolet.
