Alfa Romeo Giulia Officially Revealed, Orders Start April 15th

Alfa Romeo has officially revealed the mainstream version of the new Giulia at the Geneva Motor Show

Order books for the eagerly-anticipated Alfa Romeo will finally open from April 15th in Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia will be initially available with three engines, one petrol and two diesel units.

These include an all-aluminum direct-injected turbo-petrol 2.0-litre -the first of a new family of engines- with 200hp at 5,000rpm and 245lb ft (330Nm) of torque at 1,750rpm paired exclusively to an eight-speed automatic.

There's also an all-aluminum 2.2-litre diesel unit offered in two versions, 150hp and 180hp, featuring the latest-generation Multijet II injection system and paired to a six-speed manual gearbox with the option of the eight-speed automatic.

Alfa Romeo worked extensively to offer a perfectly balanced RWD chassis, going for a double wishbone setup at the front and a 4.5-link suspension at the rear. The heavier elements of the construction were arranged in the most central position possible, with the company using lightweight materials such as carbon fibre (for the drive shaft) and aluminum (for the front and rear subframes) in order to keep the weight low and perfectly distributed.

The result is a dry weight of 1,374kg for the 180hp 2.2-litre diesel version, with the big Quadrifoglio version tipping the scales at 1,524kg dry thanks also to the exclusive use of carbon-fibre bonnet, roof, front splitter, rear spoiler and aluminum doors and wheel arches.

Other highlights include the Integrated Brake System (IBS) which combines the traditional servo brake with the stability control system, reducing this way the pedal vibrations and helping the new Giulia achieving impressive braking performance. Alfa Romeo says that the Giulia needs 38.5 meters from 100km/h to zero, with the Quadrifoglio scoring 32 meters for the same procedure.

All versions of the Giulia will also feature a Forward Collision Warning system with Autonomous Emergency Brake and pedestrian detection. A new, 8.8-inch Connect Nav 3D system controlled by a rotary pad offers an advanced voice recognition function and complete connectivity with all mobile devices.

Depending on the trim level, the Alfa Romeo Giulia will have a 3.5-inch or 7-inch color display fitted on the instruments binnacle offering readings depended on the selected driving mode.

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia range will be comprised by the Giulia, Super and Quadrifoglio versions. Entry-level models will get all the active safety systems as standard, including the Forward Collision Warning (FCW) with Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB) and pedestrian detection, IBS (Integrated Brake System), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and cruise control with speed limiter.

Optional Sport and Luxury Packs will also be offered, with the latter offering full-grain leather upholstery for the seats to which is added power adjustment and heating functions, real wood interior finish, chrome trim on the side windows and Xenon 35W headlights with AFS (Adaptive Frontlight System).

The Sport pack includes sports steering wheel with added grip, aluminum inserts on the dashboard, center console and door panels, and Xenon headlights.
