Renault Scenic sits on standard 20-inch wheels in Geneva
Renault is showcasing in Geneva these days the new generation of the Scenic compact family vehicle.
20 years after the first Scenic, Renault is launching the fourth generation of the model that brings fresh new design and modern technologies. The first impression is that the MPV is just an enlarged version of the Captur crossover, but upon closer inspection you’ll find many new details in the design.
Compared to the Scenic 3, the car is 1.57 inches (40 millimeters) longer and 0.78 inches (20 mm) wider. Based on the R-Space concept, it comes with steeply-raked windscreen, short bonnet, and C-shaped headlights which, depending on the trim level, can benefit from LED technology. Speaking of trim levels, the French marque says that 20-inch wheels with 195/55 tires will be standard on all models, while the two-tone exterior paint will be optionally available.
Inside the cabin we find a familiar interior layout and Renault highlights the continuity of the dashboard’s lines across the door panels. The new Scenic boasts a boot volume of 572 liters, while 63 liters of additional stowage capacity are available through different drawers. Rear passengers benefit from folding tables and two USB ports at the rear of the center console.
The engine lineup of the new Scenic includes 1.5 and 1.6 dCi diesel engines with power ranging from 95 horsepower (70 kilowatts) to 160 hp (118 kW), while petrol fans will be offered with two TCe units with 115 hp (85 kW) and 130 hp (96 kW).
Starting this year, Renault will also offer the so-called Hybrid Assist electric option for the Energy dCi 110 diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Basically, this system recovers energy during deceleration and braking and uses a 48-volt battery, enabling an electric motor to support the internal combustion engine, which remains in continuous operation.
The 4CONTROL four-wheel steering technology is in the list of extra equipment and it can be combined with the MULTI-SENSE technology that allows drivers to personalize their driving experience by modifying the accelerator pedal and engine response, adjusting the speed of the gearshifts performed by the EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) automatic transmission, and controlling the firmness of the steering, the cabin lighting environment, and the massage function of the driver’s seat when it is available.
