Mercedes-AMG A35 Confirmed For Paris Show Debut, A45S Reportedly Coming Too

After pulling the cover off the new A-Class earlier this year, Mercedes is currently working on the AMG-infused versions.

The first one, named AMG A35, is expected to premiere at the 2018 Paris Auto Show, at the beginning of October, reports IndianAutosBlog, after speaking to an official within the Affalterbach-based brand.

“Yeah, you will see”, answered Mercedes-AMG’s Senior Manager Marketing Communications, Dominik Greuel, when asked about a possible premiere of the A35 at the biggest automotive event of the fall. “In Paris, it (AMG A35) will definitely be for the first time.”

The Mercedes-AMG A35 will go head to head with the Audi S3 Sportback. It’s believed to use the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and EQ Boost technology from the new E350 Coupe and Convertible, which produces 299PS (295hp / 290kW) and 400Nm (295lb-ft) of torque. The 0-100km/h (0-62mph) acceleration should take just a little over 5 seconds and top speed will probably be electronically limited at 250km/h (155mph).

As for the hotter Mercedes-AMG A45, it will have some 400PS (394hp / 294kW) to play with. The Audi RS3 Sportback challenger will be quicker to 100km/h (62mph) than the model it replaces, which needs 4.2sec.

However, it’s been reported than Mercedes-AMG is working on an A45S derivative, too (or is it A50?). It’s unclear whether it will bring more horses, as it’s believed to be a track-focused variant of the car. Changes might include improved aerodynamic and tuned ESP, Traction Control, driving modes and others, in addition to a rumored steering wheel-mounted drive mode selector.

Order books for the AMG A35 should open in Europe in early 2019, whereas the A45 and rumored A45S will probably go on sale later next year.
