VW Teases Its Baby T-Cross SUV

Inspired by the T-Cross Concept from the Paris Auto Show two years ago, the vehicle will be VW’s smallest SUV and underpinned by the same MQB platform as the Polo.

The teaser sketch reveals that the production-spec T-Cross will feature taillights connected by a solid light bar stretching the width of the rear. Additionally, we can see a subtle roof spoiler, roof rails, flared wheel arches, and intriguing doors with prominent character lines and creases.

When the VW T-Cross lands in dealerships around the world, we suspect it will be sold with similar engines to the larger T-Roc. As a result, there could be a 187 hp 2.0-liter TSI, a 147 hp 2.0-liter TDI, 147 hp 1.5-liter TSI, 113 hp 1.6 TDI, and a 187 hp 2.0 TDI. Volkswagen’s 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol is an inevitable option and will be sold in various states of tune.

Front-wheel drive will be the only drivetrain configuration but customers will be able to elect between a dual-clutch transmission and a six-speed manual.

Key rivals to the VW T-Cross will be the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 2008. The German car manufacturer has previously confirmed that the model will be constructed in Brazil.
