Audi Confirms New RS4 Avant And Two Concepts For Frankfurt

After years of testing and months of speculation, Audi will finally pull the cover off the new RS4 Avant, during the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

According to the German automaker, "the fourth generation of the high-performance Avant is another impressive chapter in the success story of the first RS model, the RS 2 Avant".

From previous reports, we know that the company's challenger to the likes of the Mercedes-AMG C63 Estate will use a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, made by Porsche. The total output is believed to stand north of the 450PS (444hp) mark, thus enabling the hot wagon to reach 100km/h (62mph), from a standstill, in less than 4 seconds.

Audi will also unveil "a limited special model with rear-wheel drive", at the German event. This is expected to be the R8 GT, a RWD version of the supercar that will take its Italian cousin - the Lamborghini Huracan 580-2, by its horns.

Two concept cars, featuring Level 4 and Level 5 automated driving, will also shine under the spotlight in Frankfurt, starting next week. The former is an SUV Coupe that measures 4.9m (16.1ft) long, based on the E-Tron Sportback study, which is said to adopt dynamic lines, a progressive lighting technology, an elegant interior, and electric Quattro drive that uses 3 electric motors that work together to deliver 503PS (496hp) to the wheels.

The second concept is said to be "designed primarily for long journeys", slotting into the D segment, using 4 electric motors and boasting a range of 700-800km (435-497 miles). Nothing else is known about this show car, except that its exterior and interior are described as being "spectacular" and "groundbreaking".

G-Tron versions of the A4 Avant and A5 Sportback will also be displayed during the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, along with the new A8 flagship saloon, which features Level 3 automated driving as standard.
