VW I.D. CROZZ II Revealed, Previews 2020 Production Model

Volkswagen has unveiled the new I.D. Crozz II concept at its preview event ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Designed to preview the 2020 production model, the I.D. Crozz II concept is an electric crossover which is described as an "enhanced version" of the original I.D. Crozz that was shown at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year.

Dressed in Hibiscus Red Metallic paint, the updated model features a stylish exterior with LED headlights and 21-inch alloy wheels. One of the biggest changes from the original concept is a new front fascia which is more "representative" of the production crossover. The sides and "lower part of the rear body" have also been reworked to be more production realistic.

The styling changes continue in the cabin as designers installed five 'Smart Lights' which are located in the door panels as well as directly in front of the driver. They provide warnings about potential collisions by flashing red and act as a "visually supportive element" to the concept's new voice control system. The latter system allows users to control a variety of functions, such as opening and closing the doors, simply by speaking.

Elsewhere, the cabin has been equipped with an ambient lighting system and a 10.2-inch infotainment system. Other highlights include a 5.8-inch Active Info Display, a digital rearview mirror, and Alcantara upholstery.

Power is provided by two electric motors which produce a combined output of 301 hp (225 kW). This enables the all-wheel drive crossover to hit a top speed of 180 km/h (111 mph) and travel up to 500 km (310 miles) on a single charge. When the battery is depleted, it can be given an 80% charge in just 30 minutes thanks to a fast charging system.

Since the I.D. Crozz II concept was envisioned as a high-tech crossover, it comes equipped with an fully automated driving system. It uses four laser scanners on the roof as well as ultrasonic sensors, radar sensors, side area view cameras, and a front camera.
